I have studied Buddhism and it seems that you could be a Christian and study Buddhist teachings at the same time to actually enhance your behavior as a Christian. Do you think so or not and why?

How can you enhance you behavior as a christian when you are studying Buddhism? It is not the christian behavior that will be developed afterward, it is the buddhism. When do study two different things, it should be equal, you have to study both. There are two possibilities that might happen if you maintain equality to both. 1. There are improvemnts if you are wise and strong enough to accept others tradition. 2.It will leads you to confuseness.

Have you studied Buddhism? I have been and the behaviors seem to be very closely related. I have come to love and forgive more people through my studies. Actually I was very surprised about Buddhism. I do think one must learn some Buddhist teachings before passing judgment. Most westerners would be very surprised at the teachings.

That's the beauty of being able to choose one's own spiritual path; you can take elements from many different religious philosophies and create your own, the one that works the best for you. Enjoy your studies!

I love Buddhism. Siddhartha Gautama taught Karma, reincarnation, enlightment, Nirvana, etc. His teachings bring peace. It is like Jesus's teachings.

Yes 2500 year old teachings from a man who didn't claim to be a God, prophet or anything, just a teacher who found a way to meditate and relieve your mental suffering through peace and love for all.

I personally prefer not to have a label of any kind. I do not align myself to any set of teachings yet I am willing to take the wisdom of spiritual masters as a guide to my own quest. I must learn to follow my own truth using my own sense of integrity otherwise I am at the mercy of the beliefs of others. A great teacher will guide and reflect with the intention of getting the student to find the God inside themselves. The symbology of the Christian bible has many wonderful teachings, as does the Bhagavad Gita. My understanding is that pure Christians, ie not modern day but in the time of the Cathars founded their knowledge in experience and not dogma, which is no different to other cults where the intention is to lead a virtuous life steeped in integrity and truth with the catch cry of do no harm. So to respond to your initial question, there is no reason why a Hindu can't read the Bible, no reason why a Buddhist should not understand the Koran and no reason why a Christian can't read the Bhagavad Gita. In fact I think it would be a good idea. I do have a spiritual teacher and I question his teachings also. I think he likes it that way!

I don't think its a problem only if one will not pratice it. I mean, it is ok studying Buddhism only if one will not develp their believe. I think so friend. Thanks

There are so many teaching in this world. Many of them are good (if don't people will leave it from the first). But I believe there is one single way to heaven. Jesus. He is the way, truth and life. No one can came to Father but by Him, because Jesus is His own son...

I don't see a problem with it. Budda was a wise man and didn't claim to be a god or anything but a teacher. His teachings are actually very much like the teachings of Jesus. It is not as if they conflict with each other.

WHY NOT? I'm a Buddhism, but i still learn from Hindu, Christian, Catholic... whatever religions. When Christmas come, I celebrate it. Any religion festival or holiday, I celebrate all. I think religion is your belief, it's not the way you learn, or the way you present your religion.

I don't see any problem if you're a Christian and study buddhism or any other religion for that matter. As a matter of fact, I think it's good to learn and understand other faith, it's history, doctrines and beliefs, for as long as we stay faithfull to the Christian faith.

Yes you can be a christian and study Buddhism. Personally, I think it is wise to learn other beliefs and make you appreciate the differences in Christianity. It will actually strengthen your faith as well.

It is exactly these types of researches that make us think about how similar all religions are. It actually improves our tolerance for other's beliefs as well as instil greater faith in our own spiritual life that God is there to help us all and He will be there whatever path we choose to take to Him. I can understand about studying Buddhism to be more Christian. That was what one of the authors of a book I love said (except that she was in a Hindu ashram). She says in her book " I am made to wonder about the wonders of God's plan which brought me to a Hindu Ashram to learn to love Christ, even more fully, every day, through my Guru."

I agree with Beckish. Faith is something personal, and should never be restricted by labels such as "Christian" or "Buddist". If you can find things in Buddism that you can't find in Christianity, then take those things to your heart. I for one have a Christian upbringing, but my personal faith also has Pagan and Shinto elements woven into it.
