We will be buying children lot of toys and books, when they are growing up. After sometime, when they are gradually growing, the earlier toys will not be used by them. What will you do with that?

I have a 6 year old boy. What I do is donate them to charity, or give them to friends that have a boy younger than mine. The plan is out with the old in with the new. To avoid having to many, when one is bought he has to get rid of one that he already has and does not play with.

Oh! This rule of discarding one when buying one is really good. No unnessary accumulating things at home.

I either donate them to a good cause, a friend with younger kids, sell them on ebay if they are worth anything or a garage sale. Or save some of the nicer ones in Rubber Maid Totes for the grandkids.

It is nice to see our children playing with the toys with which we played in our childhood.

I myself have a bad habbit of keeping everything that I know is still in good shape or the things that I feel have some memories to them. And if I dont keep them my mother in law totes them off to her house and keeps them there. I have when they were younger and they had their baby toys and learning toys I gave to a friend that had a young child. I have also donated some to local agencies that help families that dont have the means to buy their own things.

That is really so kind of you Tina12679. Poor children can play with some toys at least.

I put some of there toys in storage (attic, basement). My mom did that with some of our toys and now my children play with my old toys at her house. She also gave me some of my old toys and dolls for me to bring home to my house. The other toys I save for a garage/yard sale or just throw out - depending on their condition. I rarely throw books away unless they were really hard on them and are falling apart. If the books are in good condition and age appropriate - some libraries, nursery schools or churches may take them.

It is nice to see our children playing with our childhood toys and it is a good idea to donate books to libraries.

That reminds me, I need to go through my children's old toys! I have sold a few, in the past, at garage sales. People seem to buy them. I will keep some of their toys so when they are grown and have children of their own, their kids will have something to play with when they come to our house. My mom kept some of my old toys and gave them to me when I left home. They are now in my basement and occasionally get played with by my kids.

Yes. As a memory we can keep some toys. I think your toys will be played by your grand children also, if they are in good condition. That will be thrilling for grandmas like us.

I have friends who have younger children so I let them have a choice of toys for their kids, and if any are left that are good I go to good will, but any that are ripped or broken just go out in the trash.

Very correct good toys to needy and broken ones to trash.

I give away some of his old toys and books to his younger cousin. And I save some toys for his future siblings. And there were times that I gave some toys to a charity event. But I kept all his stuffed toys and decided to put on a shelf for display. Well, he still sometimes grabs these stuffed toys and play with them. It's like hitting two birds with one stone. I have my display and he has his toys.
