Got a quarter?

United States
July 20, 2007 8:23pm CST
Police in Washington, DC have arrested a hotdog vendor for defrauding the city! It seems that several construction workers were paying this guy to put quarters into the parking meters to keep their car from being towed. Instead, he was using a quarter that was attached to a string. He put in the quarter, then pulled it back up after the time was put on the meter! Police got suspicious when the meter funds went down in that section of the city and set up serveilance video.

Ouch! The man with the quarter on the string should be prosecuted but also the workers who were paying him because they are accomplices to a crime. Shame on all of them!

The workers who were paying him were giving him real money to put into the meters. He was stealing there money and using his fake money to make their parking meters run. It's a wonder they didn't get their cars towed. I'd have been furious if I was paying someone to watch my car meter and instead he was pocketing the money and my car was towed!

I have never heard that one before but I sure wouldn't try it and since I am honest. Knowing some people these days would do anything.

You'd think that when they emptied the meter, they'd see the string? I don't know maybe it comes completely out. I can't see how it kept from getting hung up in the mechanics of the machine. This world is crazier and crazier with each passing day.

Wow!! That's something I would have never thought of, but alas he did get caught, so I'd better not think of it. *laughing, just kidding MyLot, I wouldn't do that* It takes a (somewhat) smart person to think of a scheme like that. Amazing how stupid ideas can have clever elements to them. LOL LOL

Too funny ... they should give this guy an AWARD, how ingenious of him to think of such a thing. I am still laughing about it.

My kids and I love to watch "world's stupidest criminals." I don't think I've seen this story, but I think that he definately makes it wouldn't you think? It's actually kind of sad to think that he was that desperate for money that he had to steal quarters.

Just when you think you've heard it all. I just don't have time to think up things like this, I guess it is because I am an honest person. Thank goodness for video cameras.

I am too an honest person. I first off, didn't know you could do this, and 2nd of all wouldn't have the nerve to even try it. I don't want to go to jail over 25 cents! Can you imagine having to explain that to your family. "I stole meter money from a couple of construction guys."
