Gambling Question

United States

I'm sure that everyone who lives here in the United States has heard by now that NFL star Michael Vick has been indicted on charges of gambling on dog fights. I personally, as an animal lover, can't stand the thought of this inhumane "sport" and I am using that term very loosly. The talk radio shows today were buzzing with the debate on whether or not it, as well as cock-fighting should be legalized in this country. In some countries, it is legal. What are your thoughts..legal or not. Right or not? Have you ever been to one? (either fight)

I don't think I can consider it a sport. i know that the fighting that goes on with the roosters is legal in some countries, but should it be? I don't understand how anyone could allow this to go on...even the governments who refuse to make it illegal and prosecute those who are involved in it.

I, too, am an animal lover and would never want to see something like that. I would probably get so upset I started crying because I hate the thought of animals getting hurt in any way. I don't think it should be legal and I find it disgusting and pointless. There are so many things to gamble on why would you want to endanger animals? I was under the impression that someone who was staying in one of Michael Vick's homes was running a dog fighting ring, but that perhaps Vick didn't know about it or something? I don't know, I just heard about it last night.

No, he was up to his eyeballs in it. Everyone that is associated is rolling over like beetles in a windstorm. Vick will probably (Hopefully) do jail time. I hope that his "celebrity" status doesn't keep him from paying the price for this abuse.

I've never been to one and have absolutely no desire to do so. I live in the metro Atlanta area and am right in the middle of all this stuff right now. PETA were out protesting in town today and there is a feeling that the team is going to ask Vick to take a leave of absense...he can do that until he goes to jail...he deserves everything he is going to get

I have been noticing on the news that all of his "Buddies" are rolling over on him. I wonder if any of those men will ever see any jail time? It seems to me that most of our professionals are being given different treatment than most normal people would for the same crimes.

No I have never been to one nor will I go to one. And I don't think it should be legal for any animal to fight.

I agree completely. These dogs that were picked up, did they have to put them to sleep? YOu'd think they would be too mean for a normal family to adopt them. It just seems sad and such a waste. Most of those breeds can be gentle, unless they are abused.

I would be careful using the word "Sport" I'm glad you put it in parentheses. My daughter plays basketball. That's a sport. I have another daughter that is a cheerleader. that's a sport. (sanctioned now, thank you very much) Dog fighting is just wrong.

Vicks wasn't indicted on gambling, he was indicted on animal cruelty. On the same line, why is bull fighting any more humane ?
