Have you ever heard of Cola Beans?

My friend has been diagnosed as being allergic to Cola Beans. I've looked online and I can mostly find references to recipes where you cook baked beans in cola beverages - doesn't sound to my taste. But there are a couple of sites that mention Cola Beans as if there are a type of bean. Does anyone out there know?

Maybe the doctor means nuts. Kola Nuts/Cola Nuts- are seeds that come from the Cola Nitida and Cola Acuminata. It contains caffeine and acts as a stimulant and anti-depressant. They are also chewed to reduce fatigue and hunger. In many African countries offering Cola Nut is a gesture of friendship and hospitality.

Maybe you're referring to Kola nuts, which are a popular type of nut in Africa. (I heard of them from Chinua Achebe's classic, "Things Fall Apart.") Apparently it is a popular practice in West African cultures to chew kola nuts, which seems to lead to oral cancer. Maybe Kola nuts and Cola beans are in the same family of legumes?

To be honest I don't know. I have found references to both Cola Beans and Kola Nuts but not much of a description of either. One website (Middle Eastern)actually puts them in the same sentence: "Caffeine is a natural substance in more than sixty plants including coffee and cola beans, tealeaves, and kola nuts." So I am wondering if they "are" different? Thanks for your reply.
