Michael J Fox & Rush Limbaugh

I had seen a story recently about Michael J Fox appearing in political ads without his Parkinson's medication to show the effects and plead for voters to support candidates who support stem cell research. Now I just heard that Rush Limbaugh of all people is blasting him for "exploiting" his disease. I think this is ridiculous. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and own position, but why attack the man for passionately wanting to find a cure to this disease that is hurting him????
What do you think?

I don't like Limbaugh either... but everyone is entitled to an opinion.. even as wrong as it may be..
I have never liked Limbaugh.. if he is on.. I change the channel, radio, what ever he is on. I agree with you about him... I think limbaugh is the one who does the bashing of the opinions... and I was saying that no one should be bashed for the opinons.. that's what linbaugh was doing to MJF

Limbuagh is a bufoon and a liar. I wouldn't worry what he has to say.
If Mr. Fox was exploiting his disease I say bully for him. There is nothing wrong with exploitation when used for a worthy cause. Even if he was"simulating" the effects of being off medicine so what? He was illustrating a point that a cure is possible and neccassary.
Of course Rush has a right to say his opnion and I have a right to call him a jack-hole for his opinion. Freedom of speech doesn't protect our right to say something smart, it protects our right to say something stupid.

"There is nothing wrong with exploitation when used for a worthy cause."
This is just another way of saying , " The end justifies the means." It is an excuse by which people do things they should not. You really do not want to go down that road.

"Freedom of speech doesn't protect our right to say something smart, it protects our right to say something stupid."
This is completely false. Freedom of speech according to the founding fathers, themselves, is about protecting primarily political speech. This includes the right to say something smart or stupid. It only bans libel, advocating the violent overthrow of the government, and things like that.

I have not heard this, but what is wrong with Michael J Fox trying to help people see that Parkinsons is a serious disease, and what is wrong with trying to promote things to where there needs to be a Cure.
What I do not understand, is why are so many people against this? It could also be a Cure for other things also.

I've not seen that. But that's sad. I know Michael J. Fox only wants to find a cure for his disease. Not just for himself, but for everyone else that has it as well & for those who might have it in the future. Why attack him for that?

Thank you for your response! I have never been a fan of Rush Limbaugh and I respect Michael J Fox a great deal. I literally shook with anger when I saw that story.

I've never had any use for Rush Limbaugh and I'm still of that opinion...maybe even more so. Michael J. Fox wants a cure for Parkinson's, not just for himself but for everyone who has it. I hope Rush Limbaugh gets more people turned against him and his hateful thoughts for this horrible display in attacking MJF. All I've ever heard RL do is attack people and never have heard him do anything positive. I can't understand why so many people listen to him and believe every word out of his mouth.

It is wrong for anyone to be bashed just because they are trying to get help finding a cure for a disease they have.Everyone wants to be cured and the only way to do it is to find the help to do it.

Rush Limbaugh is an egotistical exploiter of most things "good" and "progressive." He supports big money, power and elitism and would love to see the U.S. regress back to the landowner/peasane economic system. And so would Bush, Cheney and Rumsfield, in my not so humble opinion. What he said about Michael J. Fox is simply par for his course. He is as distasteful and inhumane as he's ever been.

Rush Limbaugh is a jerk, but a very entertaining one. He is mean spirited, and that is why the Michael J. Fox thing upset me. My grandfather had Parkinson's and my husband's father has a similar disease, so it's offensive to me when "Mr. Windbag" blows a bunch of hot air out his piehole about something he knows nothing about.

I agree. It's disheartening that Rush Limbaugh would say such things about Michael J. Fox. It's one thing if you don't agree with the research with stem cell research, it's quite another to say such things about those supporting the research who have the disease. Thanks for the post!

And if Michael J Fox did purposefully act up in the commercials? Is that fair to us to have our emotions played on so he can get his preferred candidates in?

He said that he did not act up and did not skip his medicine to make the effects worse. I have no reason to not believe him. I can't imagine putting that shaking on for any purpose, even for the length of a short commercial. It looks incredibly uncomfortable.

I heard and then saw Rush and Michael. I have never liked Rush and personally think he's a total a-hole. I thought that was cruel and a new low for Rush. He just doesn't know where to draw the line does he? We all say and joke about things that sometimes hurt people and don't mean to, but I don't think he's sorry at all. He probably likes the publicity. I am totally in agreement with Michael J. Fox about supporting stem cell research. It sounds like it could help so many people. I think Michael was very brave to appear as he did. I don't know too many people who would have the courage to do that. Hopefully this gives the subject of stem cell research more publicity. Hopefully a positive will come from a negative.
