So, which is it intellect, self awareness, or thumbs?

Shat is it that allows man to ascend above all of the other creatures on the planet. They say that it is just our possession of thumbs which allows us to use and to create tools. Others say it is that we are self-aware and that this makes us superior to all the other animals, well I haven't asked her, but my cat seems pretty self aware too and I don't see her evolving into anything but a cat from a kitten. I believe that humankind is superior and reigns supreme due to our intellect. However that intellect has placed us sitting precariously in an armed standoff on enough ordinance to blow up our entire planet a few hundred times so are we really all that smart?

Actualy I believe it is none of the above. The major primates have all of those and are still where they are in evolution. whathas allowed man to ascend is imagination. Imagination has driven man to imagine himself and his world as more and to use his intelect, self awareness (and thumbs) to achieve his goals.
