How do you feel about people who use their cell phones while driving? What kind of situations do you think is an inappropriate time to use a cell phone yet other people apparently don't give a second thought to using their cells?

My husband and i work in a hospital and we see the effects of this practice and to us, this is not a very wise thing to do. The only way to use their cell phones is to just pull over to the side of the road and use it then.

This is what I like to hear. We had an accident in our city recently involving a young person who was texting another person while driving and hit a bicyclist. Now that must have been one important text message! I appreciate you participation in my discussion and hope that people who need to be encouraged to stop with the gadgets and focus on driving read and heed.

It can be very dangerous. You are concentrating more on what is being said on the phone than watching out for other drivers or obstacles that my be in the way of your car. I have noticed ppl here in PA, where I live, that pull of on the side of the road and have the phone up to there ear. Guess here they are a little more aware of the dangers of talking on a cell while driving. ~Remember to give out +'s when it's deserved & select best responses. It helps us all out ;-]

That is what I do. I am scared to take my eyes off the road long enough to dial or answer. Even if you wait till you are at a stop light you can end up being the one people are honking at because the light changed and you are still sitting playing with the phone. Thank you for responding.

This is the only way to go! - If you drive and talk on a cell phone this is the way to go!
The only safe way for a person to drive with a cell phone is if they have an earpiece headset or one of those bluetooth headsets. That way they can keep both hands on the wheel.

Well now we are at least making steps in the right direction. I have found that even conversation with someone in the car, especially if it requires more then just passive thought can be distracting enough to impair driving.

I have to agree that it's not good to talk on the cell phones while driving, but i'm guilty...i do that sometimes. I just dont like it when there's some people who talk on their phone and drove at a speed so slow, that they dont notice a long long line behind them. I hate it when people talked on their cell phone in the cinema loudly, without considering about others who want to watch the show in peace!

i don't like it. They make risks for themselves. Is it worthed? I mean time they waste for just stop & receive the call comparing with risk they'll get if they keep on call while they driving?

It is dangerous because the driver will be distracted while he/she is driving, especially in the city or highways. It is against the law in Singapore and it carries a heavy fine. But is is legal to have an ear piece connected to your cell phone and you can talk as you drive.

I see that all the time... and they have a cigerette in the hand they are steering with. Then they are putting on makeup at the stoplight and sit there till people honk when the light turns green. I just wish people would STAY FOCUSED ON DRIVING if you are behind the wheel!

If they can drive while doing it fine. If not they need to pull over and talk or hang up. I do fine if I am on the phone, but I don't talk on the phone while driving unless I have to, I don't just chat with friends while driving.

But most can't drive fine while using the phone. I appreciate those who at least use a headset but even then if they are talking to someone on the phone, their thoughts are on the conversation when they should be FOCUSED on the job of operating the vehicle. I don't even like to be talked to too much by passengers when I am driving. It isn't so bad to talk to passengers on the interstate where things don't change as much or as fast but in town it is unwise. Too many things going on. Like that intoxicated person who is oblivious to the traffic and crossing the street to get to the another bar. Thank you for responding.

Hear hear! I almost always pull over and park somewhere before using my cell which I pay a whooping $80 a year for. If that gives you any idea how much I use it. If I could use up all the minutes on the thing I might stop using it all together.
