Dreams

Do you often have a really good dream-one that you know would make a basis for a good story-but you lose it when you wake up? This happens to me all the time. Being a writer, I am constantly looking for new ideas, and they come to me frequently in dreams. It is so frustrating to not be able to remember what I dreamed about. I have heard that if you put a certain herb under your pillow at night you will be able to remember your dreams. Has anyone found this to be true?

I haven't exactly had that experience, but once in awhile when I'm writing a story I get "stuck"...the good ole writer's block...The weird thing that happens to me, is that I must be dreaming the story,...it wakes me up and I grab my notebook near me and write down as fast as I can...then nod off again....LOL...hours later when I wake up will look at what I've read and it's so on the money I hardly have to change a thing. As far as an herb for dreaming... I got this from a website...I always remembered that Mugwort is supposed to be good.. "...Mugwort is most famous for it’s use as a "Dream" herb. It is known to enhance dreaming, both in sleep and in Shamanic Journeying and other trance work. It is said to enhance whatever level of dreaming one is developed in. For example, if one can not remember one’s dreams, Mugwort will enhance and help the individual to develop this. If one is at the next level of dreaming, cognitive dreaming: (being aware one is dreaming and being able to "manipulate" the dream at will) Mugwort will enhance this...." Got the above from this site http://altnature.com/thegarden/Mugwort.html And this site has "dream pillows"--thought it was a great idea http://www.longcreekherbs.com/dreampillows.shtml

Take a look at these two writer's words. Our books come from dreams. Readers are so cheated. LOL

I have had this happen before also, weemam. It's great when something will remind you while you are going about your ordinary day.

This happens to me alot. You have a really good dream that you either get woken up half way through OR have a really good dream and wake up not remembering it or at least not enough of it to make a story out of it. I've not heard about the herb under the pillow thing but surely it's worth a try and then maybe you can let us know if it really works? :)

A few times I have. It is a great idea to write your dreams down that way latter you will remember them and like you said write a book about them. Writing mine down helped me get over my ex husband when I had dreams about him. I think the worst was dreaming of him and his new wife yuk.

That is sad, Shaun, but I hope you are over him. Think of it this way; all the little things that he did which annoyed you are now annoying her, LOL.

I have never heard of that! I might try it because I tend to forget the really good dreams really easily after waking up (even when I tell myself I'll remember them)... and remember really scary/frustrating dreams (for example, the "falling" dream or the "eating and never eating dream" where I am about to feast on something very delicious and waking up when I'm about to eat it, but never do... so sad *tear*

I forget my dreams a lot of the time too. I've never tried any herbs or anything like that to help me remember. I had a terrible dream last night and I remember it. I wish it would have been one that I forgot.

I've only heard that certain herbs can help effect what kinds of dreams you will have. For instance, if the scent is something familiar to you it will help you to dream about the memories or feelings you associate with that scent. If I'm not being that clear, here is a website that sells herbal dream pillows to evoke certain kinds of dreams and restful sleep: http://www.longcreekherbs.com/dreampillows.shtml As for remembering what you dreamed about, I used to always keep a notebook on my nightstand to write down things that come to me when I sleep. The first thing that I do before I even got out of bed was to grab that notebook and quickly jot down the major parts of my dream that I remembered. Then when I had more time, I would go over what I wrote and I try to flesh it out more. you'd be surprised how much you can remember when you have little notes to help remind you. I found it most helpful when my notes described the way the dream made me feel, the colors that were dominant in my dreams, and also any major events. You might not remember erverything, but it can often be enought to get you started and then you simply use your skills as a writer to fill in the missing pieces and change things to make a more linear story. Good luck with both your dreams and your writing!

I really appreciate your advice, krebstar. I will take you up on it. I have bookmarked the link so that I can do a bit more research into scented pillows.

I have always been able to remember many of my dreams. I have found it useful to keep a dream journal next to my bed and to write down my dream as soon as I wake up so I don't forget it.

I am a writer too...I really had a time of this but I wrote down all my dreams every night. I did it for a good solid year. I made sure as soon as I woke up I would write it down. I think if you relax and not put so much pressure on yourself you will remember.

Thank you for the tip, taylorblue. You just might be right. I have been plagued by nightmares since I was very young, and I sometimes think I am deliberately sabotaging my own dreams for fear that I'll remember a bad one.

Maybe there would be a certain herb can help us remember our dream.Befor we find the herb i think we can do something to remember our dreams. When we make a dream and wake up,we can write it dowm immediately. But as we all know,we can have a perfect dream but we cann't do every perfect. So,if we wake up and forget the dream it's normal.Nobady can remenber all the dream he have dreamed
