Do you find that you and your family sit in the same seats at dinner?

I noticed somthing last night when my family ate dinner. Seems each of us goes to the same seat each night. Does your family do that too or do people rotate where they sit? Why do you think it is that in some families people go to the same seat?

Yes, we have our picks. Not that I made anyone set where they do, the kids and Hubby just picked their places. We have a four seats at the table so when everyone is seated I end up with the same seat, lol. Now every now and then I get a funny mood, I will extend the table and add the two extra chairs, that messes them up and then they will pick diffrent seats that way. :oD

HaHa, what a way to play with their minds! Great sociology experiment. Interesting how we become such creatures of habit.

Oh yes, every night/day we all sit in the same seat like a bunch of robots.Im at the end,my boyfriend is to the right of me and our daughter is to the left of me.Actually she changed places with me about 5 months ago,i dont know why.I think its a routine. You sit down so much to eat and end up in the same place all the time.Oh well,at least were all eating together every night.

Yes, I have always done this, with family or alone. It is one of those things that does not matter to me. I could sit anywhere and it wouldn't matter. Growing up, we always sat in the same places , except maybe at holidays or when there were more people. I think it is fine to have a favorite place to sit.

We all go to the same seats also. I'm not sure why we do, it's never been stated who's is who's. This is a good question!

Oh definitely! My husband and I always sit in the same seats. But he just turned the kitchen table to be long ways in the other direction, so now I'm confused!! LOL

Hahaha, yes I've noticed that too, and it happens in my family most of the time. In my kitchen, if I'm eating alone I sit in the chair with my back to the stove. When my one daughter and family eat over, she sits there, and I sit at the one end, her hubby across from her, and the high chair is on the opposite end from me. I think we change around though so it makes it easier for Mom & Dad to serve & help their little guy easier. But, it seems like we do pretty much have set patterns each time, whether it's one set of my kids, or the other. Looking back to the family table when I was a kid myself, it was the same: Mom & Dad, and us kids, always grabbed the same seats, and if Gramma or anyone else ate with us, it switched again, but always to the same pattern. Never really thought about this before...interesting, no?!

Yes we do, I am not sure why. It is just a habit I guess.

Yeah, it seems like we all sit on the same seat and on the same side all the time. So, I guess in a way we assign ourselves seats and stick to them.

My family have always sat in the same seat for every meal. We have each had "my chair" and I guess it is just a habit.

We always sat in the same spot, still do. No one ever was 'assigned' a place, it just happened. I think in a very sub-conscious way, it gives us all a 'place' in our family. We always ate together as a family and the empty chair was always noticed, and commented on.

Something I never really gave much thought to but we have always had the same place at the table. Never have I ever rotated places. I think it's how things were when growing up. We each had our place and that's where we sat. Guess my husbands family did the same because we always stick to our same place. You have such unique questions !!!
