Yes I'm talking about the Stevie G goal on Saturday. I watched the replays - wasn't awake enough at 2am early morning Singapore time to have caught it live. The superb clinical precision with which it curled into the top right corner of the net just left the goalie no chance. I don't think I've seen goals of this quality for a very very long time. Straight off his foot from a free kick and curling beautifully into the corner where the goalie just couldn't reach. Awesome. And crushing for Aston Villa, unfortunately as this goal struck in the 87th minute, 2 mins after Villa had equalised. http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/mediawatch/drilldown/MW11668070814-0805.htm

I think we haven't seen such type of goals in the English Premier League for a long time ever since the departure of David Beckham from Manchester United. The guy was awesome at taking free kicks, and had a dozen like those almost every season in his tenure at United. Coming onto Stevie G's goal on Saturday evening against Aston Villa, the grandness of the goal lies in the fact that it gave Liverpool a win. The way the ball left John Carew , the tallest Aston Villa player that too while fully in the air, it had only one way to land, that is, in the back of the net. The keeper did get a final touch to the ball, but the projectile motion was such that the ball had to enter the goal.Well done Steven Gerrard. :)

Stevie G is known to score such important goals time and again and again, so it was no surprise. But, you are right, it was awesome anyhow!! I just loved the cool and collected manner in which he went about taking the freekick. Let's hope to see more such action from Stevie G. Cheers! Ram

That's why he is called Captain Marvel. I also like his final strike during the FA Cup final 2006. Fantastics volley to rescue Liverpool and eventually lifted the trophy!
