do you feel bad when you take a long time in line at a store when it is long?

I have. It was in the morning before work and i had stopped at a convenience store to get gas, cigarettes, coffee, and i wanted to cash in a few scratch offs I had won. I got to the line and it was already about three people ahead of me. Once I got to the front of the line I told the cashier what I wanted. By now it was about 5 people behind me who had started mumbling under their breath. It figures that the cashier was new and didn't know how to use the lotto machine correctly and no other lines was open. After a minute of her fiddling with the machine with no luck. I told her never mind and just got my other items because I didn't want the people behind me to have to wait long. Have you ever done that? Why did I feel this way? I should be able to go to the store and get the items I need without feeling rushed. What is your opinion on this? Are you the angry person at the back of the line? I can honestly say I have been both.

i work in a convenience store and I have for several years. I don't mind if someone has a lot of transactions if they are considerate to the other customers. I think it is just plain rude when a customer comes in ...sees that the store is busy and takes up so much time that they may as well be 10 customers. yes the people behind do complain and they complain to me. there are some that do this so regularly that i actually groan under my breath when they enter the store. I know they are going to create a long line because they always do.

lol...i can just imagine. I'm glad I'm not the only one who tries to be considerate for others. I know it is hard for you being the cashier because it's not your fault they want so much stuff. Thanks for your response.

i actually wrote a thread on this topic....on being a good customer ....customers are the ones that will be quick to complain if we are not on top of things...it takes just one customer to create a line the length of the store. It is more times than not due to something that is unimportant such as lottery...no...actually always the lottery. it is so so annoying. they actually have a certain look..their eyes glaze as the squint and hunch forward to look at the tickets...and they take their time asking about the cost and the numbers. I so appreciate those that know what they want ahead of time.

I know that when I started cashiering I got screamed at by more than a few people.I had never done it in my life so if you felt bad.The cashier might have felt worse becuase when you don't know what your doing and there's noone to ask.It feels really bad.

That is why I try to be as patient as possible with people and try my best to be polite and empathize with what the cashier is feeling because I was on the other side at one time myself as a cashier. I think rude people alot of times just need to put themselves in the place of the other person.
