Potty Training - Pull ups or underwear?

When you started potty training - did you use pull-ups or go straight for the underwear? The third time around I went right for the underwear and only pull ups at night and it worked like a charm. I think the entire pull up concept confuses them because it is kind of like a diaper and absorbs the urine. I use pull ups at night because I don't feel like changing the sheets in the middle of the night if my little guy has an accident.

when i potty trained my son we used underware in the house and pull ups when we went out anywhere and at bed time.
