No matter how I tried to learn feline character , they are a strange lot . I am a cat lover , but would the cats reciprocate the love and affection that you shower on them . I doubt very much because they would desert you at the right opportune moment when they have better comforts in the neighbourhood .

Me i have grown up with cats, and i find i have a lot in common with them. Just because they don't show affection as much as or as violently as dogs do, doesn't mean they don't have any. I'ts just hard to get them to love you:) True, they give more attention to the persons that feed them, but i can tell they are looking for more then a meal in a friend! You just need a matching personality: they like peacefull persons (cats don't like stress, even loud sounds) gracefull (they prefere slow, delicate motions like their own) attentive (you need to treat them like you want them to treat you: give them space when they're busy with other things like cleaning themselves or digesting... might sound silly but that's their job! ...and play with them when they like you to) They are complicated, but they deserve it: they are cleaner, more silent, they don't chew things, don't need taking out, don't get your carpet wet with spit or with dirty paws, they almost never byte and never ever smell bad! Cat's friendship is based on respect, and i like that! :) PS: My cats have learned by themselves where to do their dirty business, i never showed them even one time, and so did all the cats i had in my house, and they were many :)

...Cats are very capable of showing you love. I once had a cat hug me. I had just got a phone call from home and found out a friend had been killed in an auto accident. I sat numb on the couch and my cat hopped on my lap, put a paw on each shoulder, put his head next to my ear and purred. ...There are many good books on cat behavior. Check one out of the library. ...Most important tip I can give you is cats are individuals. No two will behave the same. Allow them to be who they are, get to know them and you will see they will show you love. ...Have a purrrrfect day and peace be with you. =(^;^)= Della

May be you are lucky to get such a cat. I have heard many stories saying that cats are cunning animals like the foxes.

...Can't remember who said it, but "friends are presents you give yourself." If you are kind to a cat, dog or an other person, most likely, they will return the favor. ...When others were being cruel to this cat, I took him in, fed him and loved him. He was just returning the favor when he saw I needed it. ...PBWY =(^;^)= Della

Well, i don't know about your cats, but my cats are very loyal to me and to my family. They love us very much and they miss us when we are gone. i spent 2 years in the hospital and durring that time, the cats all were worried about me and looked for me contstantly...especially my cat. She would cry at my bedroom door and sit in front of it all the time and search the house for me. i used to sleep with washcloths and then send them home for my cat to sleep with. She always made sure to lay right on top of them and not let the other kitties have them. SHe missed her mommy so much. It broke my heart to hear, but at the same time it made me feel good to hear how much she loves me.

I don't think so. I used to have a wonderful cat who insisted on going outside. He got wet food across the street, but he knew he'd sleep warm in my bed & that's where he was at night. I miss him, but I don't miss letting the cats outside & worring about kids, dogs & cars.

So maybe the cats also look forward to some place where they can live more comfortably as to betray their masters. It is interesting though for cats to behave like that. This way you will be stressed to offer a better place and better food for your cat to have him stay with you as always. Smiling.

That is why it's called as feline species. Try to look for special smell for it so that it will stay staunch in your compound.

They do return the love that you give them. I have had several outside cats in my lifetime, and each came home at night, although they roamed the neighborhood. People belive cats have strange behavior, because, unlike dogs, they do not show affection all the time. They are very independent creatures. But they can sense your feelings as well. Like one time, I had gotten in trouble and my mom hit me a couple of times, nothing abusive, just to get me in line. Anyway, one of my cats watched the whole thing, and then after my mom left the room, she kinda came out looking at me as if to see if I was okay. She juped up into my lap, and rubbed against my chin to comfort me. Cats are very wonderful creatures, and they know where home is if you treat them right. I had several female cats, and a couple had kittens in my house. They let me watch, and were even fine with me holding them after they cleaned them off. A lot of people don't believe me, but one actually came and got me before she was about to deliver her litter!!! I was sitting in the living room, and she came out of the kitchen and looked at me. She meowed, urgent-like, and motioned with her body towards the bedroom closet (where her and the other female cats had had kittens before) She would not leave me be until I came in and watched over her while she had her kittens. And never let someone tell you that you can't train a cat. Peter, one of the only two male cats I had, was trained. He knew and would answer his name with a "Meow" and would sit on command!!!

I do believe that cats with come get their owners when they are about to give birth. Every experience I have had with pregnant cats led me to believe they seek out their owners letting them know what is about to happen. It probably just depends on the cat and situation.

Dear Mr. Sukumar, You are right. Cat is not a fainthful animal. When I was young we used to rear one small cat which came of its own to our house during a rainy day. We nursed very well but after 3 months she left and never came back.

Oh! you are quite right ,navtech, ..never trust a cat lest you will be sad for having reared and loved them . The behaviour of cats is quite strange and it needs quite a lot of close investigating .

Yes, cats are a strange lot. We had a Manx cat (no tail) once who would leap from the floor when I was eating at the dining table and steal the food right off my fork. Eventually we locked him out of the room at mealtimes. He once came back home with his paws covered in tar of some sort. He was biting it off and kept throwing up. The vet said the only way to fix it was to put him in a bath with hot water and washing-up liquid. It took me all my strength to hold him down whilst my wife cleaned the tar off. It took about an hour. He soaked the two of us with his struggles and our arms were covered in bloody scratches. I have never known such a strength in such a small animal! LOL

I disagree with you. I have a cat who would love me forever and she has. We have moved twice and she has come with us. Cats will leave some people and pick there owner if you are not giving them what they need, but I find that some cats love you no matter what. I have had cats all my live and I have had never had one leave for a better cat house. LOL

Well Sukumar, some of my cats show to me more love than the others. They also "talk" to me with a very specific short noices, - not the Miauw thing. When I was with a broken ancle, they came and were changing places by going to lie down on my leg, while excercizing their healing powers. An other thing is that if and when I cry, my most beloved cat comes and licks me on the hand and if I continue with crying she tries to reach my face and lick my tears off, how sweet is this, and doesn't it mean that cats definitely show love :) or at least some of them do?

I think it all depends on the cat and their personality. I believe that how a kitten is raised has alot to do it their personality too. If they get alot of love and affection when they are young kittens from humans, then they will most likely grow fond of humans and continue to love them throughout their lives. If you notice, kittens that are born with no humans around and never come in contact with humans when they are young, will never let a human near them in most cases. There is alot of stray cats around here and I have tried many times to show them the love they need but they continue to run away. Its just in their nature because they wasn't shown the attention from humans when they were young so they don't understand. Each cat has their own individual personality. That what makes being a cat owner so much fun. You just have learn each cat's personality. All my cats are outside cats. They are so loving and never stray away from the house. I have had every one of them since they were kittens and have shown them all the love in the world and I get that love in return. I'm so lucky to have such sweet, loving cats.

Sukumar, it is all depending upon love you provide: The potential of love is the main thing but in most of the animal basic needs are more important! They can't avoid their hunger. If the animal is old then also they try to get it when hungry and what ever they got eatable they eat! And so when your cats got better comforts at neighborhood they left you! But at the same time if your love is so immense for them then they will have to come and join with you once in a day they are some time pulled out by love also! If such sense is developed in the pet animal they always comes to you, though like the comfort! I remember my childhood event: One injured dog was sited on our fore front of house and was crying. Seeing his wounds on neck and what ever feeling my father got from his cry, he just went inside and come back with the bottle of tincture iodine! And then he just poured the bottle over the neck wound and his cry become loud with rolling and we saw worms were coming out from the wounds and then my father just showered the dog and put cotton with white powder over the wound/s and he slept! After few days he was fine and recovered and become fond of my father: No one can say anything loudly to my father even not a joke also in his presence otherwise he will just growl first and then if my father will not say him, No Moti!’ then will go quickly to the person to bite! It was never happened but he never left the house when we were gone out side neighbors used to give him food coming to his special place at forefront of our house! Well I have heard about such cats also! And found that real love really changed them and they learned such value based things too! Yes it is rare but happens!

My cats return all of my love and affection. They're very affectionate. They're strictly indoor cats, so they aren't wandering the neighborhood getting attention from other people.

Nah, I think cats do know how to love humans, it just depends on how much you love them back. A couple of my housemate's cats actually moved with me when i got a new house. Luckily I was only living a couple of houses away, but what I'm saying is that cats do get attached to humans... depends on the human that's looking after them
