Can parents do more to stop teen drinking?

How can we tackle teen drinking and anti-social behaviour? A police chief has condemned parents for "turning a blind eye" to their children's underage drinking and anti-social behaviour. Cheshire Chief Constable Peter Fahy also called for the legal drinking age to be raised to 21. Mr Fahy said it was naive to assume police alone could tackle anti-social behaviour, criticising those who sold alcohol to young people and the "hardcore" of parents who "abdicated" their responsibility. Should the legal drinking age be raised to 21? How can we stop shops selling drinks to teenagers? What are your experiences of drunken behaviour?

I think the best way to avoid teens and drinking is a good example. If the teen sees there parents drink, the why shouldn't they? And knowing their children. My parents didn't drink, but allowed me to do whatever and I ended up with the wrong crowd. My experiences with drunken behavior? Way too many to count and none of it good. People get abusive and you get bad memories from it.

i think parents should tame their children first.. every behavior starts at home, and parents should take full responsibility of it.

If a teenager wants to drink badly enough they will find a way. but there are also step that can be taken to slow it down and prevent it. I drank some at the age of 18 illeagally. Some of the boys we ranaround with were old enought to buy it. Raiseing the legal age will help if the shops and pubs that sell it are very heavely fined as well as any one caught buying it for the teens. Any one caught buying alchol for teens should spend behind bars. Here in the states any one buying liquer has to show IDs to buy it. sure IDs can be faked but the shop owners here are taught how to spot fake IDs. The parents caught giving their teens alchol should also be heavly fined if not put in jail. They should not be allowed to turn a blind eye on their teens drinking. There should be some kind of dicipline in place for the parents.

Yes,I think that parents can play a part in stopping their teenage kids from drinking.see they should not give a lot of cash at one time..their monthly pocket money should be split into parts.also once a while they should see with what kind of friends they are with..Treat them as friends so they can be free to speak up..
