Dogs and table scraps

We don't feed our dogs table scraps exclusively, but will often mix them in with their regular dog food as a treat. I've heard arguments from both sides, but we never entirely substitute their dog food with scraps. Do you give your dog people food?

Yes, that is all that my dogs get, (except for onions and dangerous foods)..They do get commercial dry food, but table scraps all the time..The vet says its ok and they are the healthiest looking dogs that he has seen.

That's what we do - commercial dry food as their main source, then scraps (usually sauce or gravy) to give them a little variety.

Hi there!Yes i do give my little pom.people food.I give her rice with chicken meat, carrots(she loves this),raw potatoes, cheese sometimes, peas, corn, hamburg, raw stew meat once in a while as a treat. She likes it when i mix peas, rice and chicken together, its better than the dog food. But when it comes to supper,if there is something left i usually do not give it to her.I dont care much for the begging to start that way.I do not give her popcorn or chocolate though.:)

Do you cook for your dog? My aunt used to. I feed mine commercial dog food, but include scraps as a special treat sometimes.

No not all the time.Only as a special treat.I dont trust the commercial dog food sometimes ,because lately theres alot of recalls on that stuff.I like cooking,so sometimes i will throw in a extra potatoe or so just for her.But her main source is the dry food(little ceasers)plus as an extra treat its little ceasers moist food pouches. My daughter likes to,lets say....accidently drop some food on the floor under the table sometimes.lol!sneaky!:)

What a good boy to wait and not beg! He needs to come over and give my three girls etiquette lessons.

Yes, my dog does not like to eat pet food, it likes to eat human food, every time I cook a will to do it, it is like eating rice, potatoes and tomatoes there.

Hello DJ9020, I usually feed my dog with her regular dog food pellets and canned dog food. I don't often feed my dog table scraps except if its beef's or pork's heavy bones. I give it to my dog as treat that they can chew on and I think it helps their teeth also. :-)

Sometimes I buy the beef bones at the store for them. They are small dogs, so I get the ones that are already cut. That keeps them busy for a while!

We gave the dog people food all the time (even though the vet said it wasn't really good for her) before we moved. When we moved we had to leave her with my hubby's parents. It was the cutest thing watching her eat people food.

When I had a dog he had cut up hotdog pieces as treats but also ate cat food (the hard kind) b/c he would not eat any dog food no matter how expensive or good for him. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~
