If you buy an item on sale, was it worth the original price to begin with?

Say you bought a microwave for $50.00 on sale. The original price was $135.00. Was it really worth $135.00 in the first place?

Probably not for they rasie the price in the first place to make a profit and even on sale like that they probably still make a profit.

The price gouging is around 3 or 4 times the price the store purchase them for. So a sale item is still a little more than the store piad for the items I feel.

Probably not. I always wonder how they can drop the price so much for sales, because they still have to make money, so they must make quite a lot when sold at full price. Best wishes to you, feona

No I would not think that it was worth the original price. It just shows how much mark up they put on items, ripping you off..

Umm good question! I would probably search online to see whether I could find the price for buying such an item etc. Most of the time I don't have time though and usually compare it with whatever else is in the store.

Hello Feona1962, That is good question! I bought few items on sale before. Normally when I see there is a 50%-70% discount, I will buy. But I still think there must be a reason why such an expensive item being sold at half of the price. I remember last time I bought a dress for half of the original price. I was glad that I could own it at last. But after a few times, I realized that the quality became poorer and I couldn't even keep it for longer use *sighs*

I wonder that sometimes too! Even if it was new it could have been defective.

Buying things on sale may become sometimes our headache.. So if we buy thing from sale then we hav to b more alert.. Check it twice b4 buying it.. At other end , if we buy first hand piece then we dont hav to worry.. even if the product is defective , we can replace it.. thats the adv.. every coin has two sides.. isnt it??

I purchase a lot of things on sale or on clearance. I always make sure it is worth the money I paid for it at least. Most times the items on sale are at the cost of the stores purchase price or a tad higher. Now my wife buys ANYHTHING on sale/clearance. HAHAHA!! I feel the itmes are not always worth the original store price as the mark up is so much. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Sometimes an item may no longer be something they carry so they mark it down to get rid of it.

NOPE! Nothing is really worth what its priced for. They just try to make money. If you wait long enough you can get things on sale. Like our PS2. Origanaly 200$ and we payed 50$ for ours. It was 2 years old then. Like the saying goes good things come to those who wait. Well if you wait you will get things for way less than the original price.

I use to work in retail at a clothing store and the clothes would come in and we would mark them up 3x the original price. Since then, I am pretty much a bargain shopper because I feel that everything is marked up very high to begin with.

It does seem like they raise the prices real high until they can't sell them at that price anymore.

well feona they always jack up the prices and always come out with some kind of profits, especially jewelry omg they jack that up so high, but hey we all still buy it.i did get a good price though,i bought a 2 carat marquise diamond engagement ring on ebay and i paid $1000 for it and then i sold it back on line for $1900.i took it to the jewelers first and they appraised it for $5000 they told me i got a awesome deal and the color and clarity was awesome.so sometimes we get good deals but the stores always make out some how.take care.pattie
