What Really Makes You Smile?

I'm So Happy I Could Grin! - A smiling puffer fish

What is it in your day that makes you genuinely smile? Is it just waking up in the morning, something a friend, lover, relative or child does? For me, it is waking up and knowing I am happy and healthy, and rolling over to my beautiful boyfriend laying next to me. I cannot help but crack a smile and consider myself lucky and happy. Throughout my day, my own daydreams and thoughts make me grin and smile widely. Humour and kind gestures make me smile or laugh. I just enjoy being happy, how about you? Malyck

It doesn't take much for me to smile. I smile first thing in response to my baby's smile - or to get one from him in response. Daydreams of course make me smile and the idea of sleep and dreams, passages in books often make me smile or laugh like a lot of Dean Koontz stuffs. You've made me smile lots as have some other mylotters as well. Yes Malyck, I do enjoy being happy. THe moment is the thing, the everything.

Yeah, if I'm really happy or want to be I turn on the music loud and sing at the top of my lungs the baby loves it too! I dance all around with him now!!!!

And there is never any need for me to smile just an overwhelming compulsion whether I'm by myself or not! I was never one to pay much attention to babies. You're just hedging your bets I bet, if I do get rich and invite you and pi to dinner at some castle in Scotland - all expenses paid of course - for that International mylot type dinner - you'll be able to make a fuss over Robert and say, I never do this but snoogs is just so cool. He want my attention I'll have to go soon, he's nursing but drumming his fingers in an irritated way on the desk!

I love smiling at babies at the shops and just on the street, or when I'm working. They all look so cute and happy (although I rarely get clucky, and I pride myself on that. I'm a big softy, but I choose not to soften up to random babies =P), and I can't help but smile and be genuinely happy because of them. I ALWAYS smile or giggle when I'm reading. I get obscure looks when others are around too, like reading is supposed to be solemn and unpleasant =P You make me smile lots also, as do some posts, responses and mylotters in general. Music makes me smile *is listening to music and chair-dancing*.

I have a lot of things that make me smile. I'm very lucky i guess :) Number one, would have to be my toddler son. Although when he's in a bad mood i usually don't want anything to do with him, he's got my temper! But he can brighten my day with ease! Just by giving me a kiss or a hug. I have a caring, loving partner, who i've been with for six and a half years (who say's high school love never lasts??) he keeps me in my place when i get moody, he has pretty much supported me financially and emotionally through our years together. We know everything about one another and i believe because we were best friends for so long in school, we are just that much closer. And i love our horses. Having that special bond with some horses is just so special and always brings a smile to my face when they walk up to me to say hello, and i don't have to catch them in the paddock. Especially my new horse Boney, we were told he isn't trustworthy, he's hard to catch, hard to ride, etc. He's so different with me, he walks up to me, i don't have to spend hours trying to catch him, and the two rides i've had on him have been wonderful. I think we have a special trust in one another, that he didn't have with his previous owners. *sigh* i'm full of love this morning :)

You are lucky! I just love smiling and being happy - I love how easy it is to flow positive energy to others =D I reckon if I had kids, they'd get my temper too, and I'd be like you - not wanting anything to do with them until they were cute again =P lol. I'm also still with my high-school love (my first love, and I suppose we're still in the end of High School at the moment, but hey...) =P, and his hugs, smiles, kisses, words and gestures make me smile constantly =] We have that closeness of best friends as well, we literally (or as literal as possible) know each other inside and out. I wish I still had my animals to bond with as well, it's great that you have that in your horses =] I'm sure Boney is just as pleased and honoured as you to have a trustworthy companion. *thumbs up* for full of love-ness =D

haha, that's so cute. and it proves how little some people know, or how blinded by their own past experiences they are =] I've always had a good rep with my teachers, so they always check on the relationship status and all. None of them expected Alex and I to start going out, but they love it =P If I walk to a class without him, they always get over-dramatic and check my temperature and make sure everything's okay between us =P They know what we're all about though. Good old teachers, they generally mean well. lol

I was told once by our school gardener that the relationships started at our school, never lasted more than a couple months after graduation. And i said to her, oh well, i'll just prove you wrong. The beginning of this year we had a school open day thing, where everyone goes and has a look what the current students are doing, so we went, we try to go every year. And this gardener was there, i had a big belly and we were together obviously, i felt like going up to her and saying "well, i've proved you wrong. Six and a half years together and two children, i think it's lasted longer than a month". Another funny thing with it is our sports teacher was trying to hook us up for a full term, he'd always partner us up together. And if they were doing an activity that i couldnt join in on (i'm not a very sporty person haha) he would sit with me and try to convince me to ask ian out and try to convince me that yes, he did like me, and i found out later that he was sayingthe same things to him about me. haha. Sadly that teacher wasn't there the next year, i would love to contact him to let him know how we are. haha

My niece is one of those many reasons I smile, she's cuddly and very talkative for a four year old. When I wake up, I always give my best to think and act positive. I like my environment to be always in good mood, to jumpstart our days right!;) Aside from my friends, the things I enjoy doing, mylotting, I also enjoy the fact that everyone is happy and we are still complete as a family..

There are endless and countless reasons, which make my smile. Seeing my friends PMs/ Mails and replies make me smile. Seeing a squirrel running on electric wire always make me smile. Seeing a smile on someone's face, also makes me smile. :):)

The first thing that made me sing and beam with joy after I left the house this morning, was a conversation with one of the little elderly ladies who lives in the next street from mine. I stopped to say good morning, and she told me of the Arts & Crafts class she was teaching today, as well as wishing me a happy and eventful day. I just love speaking to happy, positive people, and she definitely brightened my day! Any sort of cute animals make me smile and laugh. Happiness definitely makes me do so also =D Thank you for your response, Deepak!

Ellie..our cat in a morning yawn - Ellie is our 1 year old female. She and her 4 other siblings greet us every morning...and on this day..she was just waking up too!
I am on the same page with you about greeting another day and waking up to my Sweetie lying beside me. After snuggling and chatting one of us gets up and lets our five cats in. They sleep on two big cushions outside our bedroom door. The way they come up, snuggle, purr and nuzzle their heads under our chins brings a big grin to our faces! Going downstairs making a pot of freshly brewed coffee with flavored creamer and starting the day with that creates a good, happy feeling and a slight turn to my lips. A hug and a kiss from my Sweetie before breakfast starts the day on a high note as well. Going up to my office and connecting with Mylotters adds a bright point..as does my work, music, sunshine, good friends and a feeling that all is right in my world. This and many more things makes me feel warm and bright inside. Yes everyday blessings and simple abundance gives us all a lot to beam about!Nice post..thanks!

The thing that makes me smile right now is the sight of my new husband. We got married thursday, and though we're only four days into our marriage, we are having an absolutely fantastic time together. Tonight he even called my favourite radio station and requested a song just for me.

I don't smile much anymore nowadays... but what gets me smiling sometimes is a corny text message joke i get or a great commercial i see on tv. It's just random things that i find amusing at that moment. ^_^

I don't know if it can be called a smile now, its usually a blush. But usually any kind face and smile is usually what triggers my smile (a blush most times if its from the opposite gender). Other times its myself telling jokes to cheer people up, usually a small smile if its a small joke, or I bust out laughing if I hit someones funny bone. :)

Lots of things, I guess. Watching my hubby make funny faces makes me laugh. Reading funny jokes or stories or experiences also make me smile/laugh. Planning to tease my hubby before he comes home definitely makes me smile. Tickling him makes me smile, too. Being tickled by him makes me giggle. Being hugged by him or hugging him makes me smile. Talking to my mother makes me smile. Remembering my embarrassing moments make me smile AND blush he he he he...

I'm really so glad I posted this discussion. It's also brought me so many smiles, and the occasional giggle or laugh because of comments like yours. Those that make me think about the same situations in my life - my mother or family/friends/boyfriend - doing the things that you've described. These memories make me smile with glee. Just thinking of all the other people who are filled with joy and love. It makes me feel the same and it's the best way to get positive when I'm feeling down. =D

What never fails to make me smile is my baby boy. He is so cute! He loves to make different sounds, laugh, giggle, smile and play around. He is just five months old now but I can see this early that he is really smart. Also my husband makes me happy. He always think of me and our son and take good care of us. I'm really blessed.

what really makes me smile, is when someone special remembers me out of the ordinary. for example is after work my husband picks me up and hands out to me a bag of potat chips. that simple gesture makes me smile, or i call it little surprises for each day. have a nice day!

My cat makes me smile. My husband's thoughtfulness makes me smile. When I sell dog and cat food at PetSmart and the people who come in to buy it bring their cats or dogs, that makes me smile. When I win at a scratch off lottery, that makes me smile. Jokes often make me smile.
