In the last month I have had two doctors telling me I drink to much water. They tell me I will wash the medications I take right out of my system. I don't have diabetes; I have been tested for it many times. I really enjoy a good glass of cold water and I am blessed to live in an area that has really good public water. I drink bottled water most of the time when I am traveling. I know normal intake of water is about half a gallon a day (8x8oz). I usually drink about twice that, including coffee, tea, juice, milk, etc. Today is my first day of cutting back consciously. I am writing down everything I take in just to keep track. I feel thirsty and I want to drink more but I'm trying to listen to my doctors. Do you drink all the water you're supposed to or too much or not enough?

If you don't mind me asking, do you find you are going toilet a lot more because of the amount you are drinking? Or do you store it? I find that because I drink a lot I am always on the toilet, I try to drink 2 litres of water a day plus other drinks like coffee. We are always encouraged to drink lots of water I didn't know you could drink too much water?

My doctor, in fact, has instructed me to count all my liquids in my intake not just my water. Needless to say I have cut way back on coffee and softdrinks opting for water instead.

I probably don't drink enough water. I drink a fair amount of coffee and soda. I try to cut back and replace them with juice. Too much water can also cause an electrolyte imbalance in the body, which can affect the heartbeat and other internal systems. I think it is unusual for people to actually drink too much water, but if your doctor has an issue with your medication then you should follow his instructions. If you drink so much and are still thirsty, it could be some of your medications causing the thirst. My dad had that problem. You might want to ask your doctor about that possibility.

It is mostly a problem with medication side effect...namely thirst, as you say. I already knew that. The doctors are always trying to adjust my meds to get the perfect balance of everything and as few side effects as possible.

If your thirsty maybe you could get some sugar free sweets to suck on as it is really dangerous to drink too much water. Our bodies cannot cope with it and like has been said you can actually die from drinking too much in a day. I used to drink more water when I was younger as I thought it was good for you and keeps your skin nice but I read recently that the guidelines for drinking water is too high and that we don't really need the recommended 8 glasses a day. I don't feel worse for not drinking as much but maybe I would look half my age if I had carried on. I hope you are better soon and can stop the medication.

It is very dangerous and can kill you. There have been been quite a few deaths caused by this. http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?articleID=4EC337D6-E7F2-99DF-3549D1F6684BC11A

I drink a lot of water also- But I’m not sure if I drink too much- I thought there was no such thing as too much- I don’t take medicine other than birth control- so I’m sure I’m not flushing any needed medicine out of my system. I drink when I’m thirsty- and I always have a bottle of water with me when I’m out and about- I even usually end up buying another- I drink a lot.

i dont drink enough. i get most of my water from bevrages and food. i dont really like drinking water. but there are times when i get really thirsty and want water, but after the frist glass i dont want anymore. theres this glass that i like drinking from cause it holds the right amount. usualy they are too small and then i want more but when i start another glass it begins to taste bad. but this glass, you start drinking, then you come to the point where you want more, but it isnt finished yet, and you think your gonna have to pour some more. but then you come to the point where you dont want anymore, and that right at the end of the drink.
