One of my first discussions was on tackling depression. I have been a patient of depression and believe me there's nothing worse than that. Depression is not really regarded seriously as an illness and most of the time is ignored by friends and family. They dismiss it with impatience and disgust. Depression often has no immediate cause but a is a result of subtle and prolonged influences. It could be hereditary or a result of a person's upbringing or social circumstances. I personally feel though medication does help, it is meditation which really helps. Please give as much support to your friend as possible and gently push her in the direction of prayer. Buddhism is a wonderful faith to practise. All my best wishes for your friend.

I had to respond to this comment for a couple of reasons. 1. I am a recovered depression sufferer myself. 2. one of the methods I used to recover was Buddhist Philosophy. By faith I am a Christian, but I was able to see the parallels between the two and use meditation to overcome my depression. You are absolutely correct that medication helps, but it is meditation that cures. I had suffered for 40 years, lost jobs, a marriage, friends and all the joy from my life because of it. Today though I am married to a wonderful woman who is the love of my life, am working 3 jobs, and have many wonderful close friends.

Most time, its my work..with ontime deliveries and work loads. I try to divert mind on music and i feel better. We need to manage depression, as it is part of life in busy world. But if we concentrate, we can manage it. I does it through my yoga, listening music and going out on vacation.
