How is your memory?

I think I have a good memory. I can remember minute details about events that happen years ago....much to everyone's dismay! But I can't remember dates. I can remember where I was when J.F.K died........what I was wearing (I was in gym class) and who told me but I can't remember the date. I can remember when I heard that Elvis died..etc. But The dates escape me. I do remember birthdays...especially those of my children...and I remember other dates of importance to my family..but not dates of other importance. How is your memory?

Interesting topic. I had also a very good memory. I could remember things happened when I was only 1 year old or so. And in school, I remembered what I learnt very well, no need to go over them before passing an exam, so although I was lazy I still got good scores:) But it seems my good memory is gone with the wind, times flies!

Right....it flits away too quickly. I also remember alot from when I was a kid. It drives my siblings crazy that I remember details of events....and they can't remember them.

I have a decent memory, but I do have a little trouble with the short term. Long-term memory is pretty solid though, especially when it comes to academics.

Some of its that. Other parts of it is hard work. And the final part is a like of knowledge and learning.

I guess am still good at it, my photographic memory's still working here that I really owe it to mylot. I still remember a number of member's not by their avatar's but by their very own usernames, since we cross each other's path very often. I admit I don't like numbers, not good in memorizing it and math is also my worst enemy to deal at!LoL

My family tells me I have a good memory. When we get together during the holidays, I always bring up a story from the past, and they say "oh yeah, I remember that, but I always have the details down more than them. When it comes to short term memory, I am terrible. I walk into rooms and forget what I came for, or go to the store and buy everything in the store except what I came for. I am in my 30's and my short term memory has been getting worse. I read it is from lack of sleep and hormone changes. So I don't worry about it. It is kinda funny, I can remember something that happened 30 years ago with minute details, and I can't remember why I got up and went into the room I am in. It makes me laugh at myself a lot.

I have the same problem. Maybe we just have too much on our minds when we are busy. That might also be the cause!

brain - the human brain is the most powerful computer in the world
Generally I have a good memory for events, people and places. But when I was still a student I could only memorize things up to the exam. Right after the exam my mind goes blank, which is why my classmates would get upset whenever they would ask me questions right after an exam. I just couldn't remember! It's like my brain wants to take a vacation after working so hard.

Maybe it's like I think we have selective memories. Maybe we just remember what is important to us!

I'm not good with dates except birthdays and alot of times I have to count back from a big event to figure out when something happened. My biggest problem is I have a brother who suffers from "total recall of things that have never happened". He will fight tooth and nail to convince you that something happened even when you know it never did. I also have a cousin that does the same thing. That totally would be a challenge....if they think they convince you that something happened and it never did! LOL....keeps you on your toes I bet!

I think I have a prettey poor memory actually. It scares me sometimes that I'm only 20 and I forget something that day that happened only minutes before. It happens all the time too.

Maybe you just have such a busy mind it's on something else so you don't retain what just happened! Thanks for posting.

I have a great long term memory. I can remember things that happened 10 years or more ago. But my short term memory sucks. I often put things down and forget where I put them a few minutes later.

I do that too unless I write everything down. If I go to the store for two things sometimes I do have to walk around trying to remember what I was there for. If I write it down and have 50 items on the list and forget the list at home I can still remember!

I'm one of those who forget things that happened minutes ago but I can remember things that happened years or months ago. I don't why my mind is like that. hehe
