Things to do with a young family

There are lots of things to do as a family activity besides sitting at a movie, basically ignoring each other for a few hours, and cheaper too. Cooking a meal together is great, provides quality time to talk and learn to cooperate. Also, making up stories to tell each other in cirle is fun, or make one up together, each person makes up a sentence and passes the story on. Do you have any other ideas for family fun on a budget. I'd love to hear them.

My daughter's first sun flower - We have had a summer-long competition to see which child could look after a plant until it flowered. Well, today one actually did

as a project, my daughters and I have spent the summer growing sunflowers. It has been fascinating. Each child has had their own plant and was charged with nurturing it and bringing it to flower. Each day the kids have been measuring and charting the growth. Each plant has been watered and fed. Well today, the first flower has been noted and it is my youngest daughter that has bragging rights. She has the smug satisfaction all day now and her elder sister has had to smile through gritted teeth. I think its great to do this sort of thing in a long-term project because it both teaches the kids things and keeps them concentrated. Blessed be

That's a great idea. Last spring we planted some milkweed and other plants that attract butterflies. My family would go out everyday to see who could find a new type of butterfly. I think it's great to do things with your family that involve nature. A bond that will last a lifetime.

Depends on how old the kids are -- but games are usually a good idea. You can pick up board games at garage sales. My son & I play Scrabble & I want to teach him other stuff like checkers & Othello. Basically, the more time you spend with them, the better. Reading together is very good. You don't have to spend a lot of money to let them know you care. Just be there for them. Play ball outside, etc. God bless!

yes, board games can certainly act as a bonding agent. Younger children particularly will enjoy playing boardgames with parents as it makes them feel included blessed be

Well I've always thought of a nice family picnic as being a nice relaxing atmosphere. Instead of preparing your own food for a change though, why not get some takeout from a favorite restaurant and enjoy that together..
