Yeah, that's the problem. They aren't relevant to the every day person. I mean who is going to know where to get truffle oil? The closest TV cooking show that uses real, every day ingredients is Semi Homemade with Sandra Lee, in my own opinion. Unfortunately she rubs me the wrong way and I can't stand to watch her. Maybe it is because no one would show that much cleavage while using very hot things. LOL

Seems each time I try to watch a cooking show, just as you said, the items being prepared are exquisite in nature or require odd ingredients. I would love to see a cooking show for the AVERAGE family/person! A show that provided tips on how to stretch the food budget etc!

Yea I get what you are saying. I do like Aldon Brown's show, and I like to watch Semi-Homemade when I can. Seems like they can use some everyday items. Other than that I like a lot of cooking shows. Some of which I know I could match despite how exotic they may seem (especially the top chef, iron chef and hells kitchen items).

There are periods of time where I can't turn off the cooking network channel, then there are days I won't even watch it even if I'm bored. I love to cook and sometimes it's fun watching the channel to get ideas. I love watching the holiday specials.

I watch Food Network a lot. I hardly ever make what they are making. I don't like Emeril, Sandra Lee, or Giada, but I like pretty much everybody else. I think my favorite is Paula Dean. She actually cooks with things you can find. He meals are so fattening though, so I hardly ever make her recipes. My son LOVES Rachel Ray, Unwrapped, and the Challenge shows.

I have not had television in a long time, but when I did I found myself addicted to the cooking shows. There was one that was like a game show, that did use everyday ingredients.... I do not remember the name of it but I think there were 3 contestants and they were regular folks not chefs and they had a certain time frame to make a meal around a few main ingredients given them - they were judged on appearance, creativity, taste.

Hello! I don't enjoy watching cooking shows much. But I do watch them when they show recipe of something which am really looking for or whose ingredients are available easily. When I hear the name of the dish they are going to cook on that show and I get to know that the ingredients aren't available easily, I mostly switch off the TV. vani ^_^
