Depression Seems to Hit it's Peak In the Mornings

As a lot of you know from my discussions, I suffer from depression and there's something that confuses me. No matter how much sleep I get, I always seem to be the most depressed when I first wake up. I don't think it has anything to do with feeling grumpy because even if I go to bed at 12 in the afternoon and wake up at night, I don't feel nearly as bad as I do if I wake up in the AM. Is there anyone else who has experienced this or have any ideas of why this could be occuring?

I would see my doc and get a referral to a good endocrinologist. You've got a major sign of hypothyroidism, which is one organic cause of chronic depression. The good thing about it is it is treatable and the depression will lift when you get the thyroid issues sorted out. Good luck with it!

I thibk it depends on person to person. For myself, its at night that i feel more depressed. Sometimes its during the day also that some matter trigerrs and I feel more depressed. I think its the way we think from time to time. Thats why it changes from person to person.

When i used to suffer with depression for years, mine was worse in the morning too..Mornings when you get up it seems it use to be worse for me...As the day went on and i began to motivate ,and maybe get out some and later in the evening i would feel a lot better....I would always have a lot of depression on Sunday's too but i do not know why..sundays always held a sadness for me,i always thought that it was because sundays are quite and not to much going on..To me,your feelings are right on target...

Yes, I've had this happen. I realized that for me, it was because I *didn't want to wake up.* I wanted to die. I sorted out why I was depressed, and figured out what I could change or do differently to make my life a happier place for myself. I've found reasons to *Want* to wake up & reasons to *Want* to be alive. This may not be why you have trouble, but I think it may well be the reason.

I know what your talking about, in fact I find myself many days saying I just wish I could stay in bed..I don't want to get up, I sit there and htink about all thew htings I have to accomplish in that day and the more I think the worse it gets. I found when I was really depressed and pushed myself to do the things that I was stressing about, I found myself feeling better. When I would wake up in the morning and look at my daughters beautiful face, and hear her say MOMMY I LOVE YOU! and her little arms circle my neck, I found not only was I doing things fo rme, but I had a tiny little life in my hands wanting me to help her..It inspired me. I really do believe that the issue in the morning is the day i starting, and you don't care for it to..Thers way to much to do, or you have to do something you dont like! I have actually made myself sick at times when I have stressed about things.

I completely understand! It is when I have to face everything that sometimes I feel this way. I have been battling depression for awhile now and sometimes I relapse. There are times when it hits in the morning. I try to see it as a new day, but sometimes it feels overwhelming.

I have the same problem. I now works nights and no longer suffer the way I used to when I woke up in the AM. I wonder if it has anything to do with being nagged out of bed to go to school when I was a child and dreading it. Maybe I am just a nocturnal creature. I'm not sure if my working nights has lessened my depression, I only know that I am way less depressed.
