Should I Complain or Risk Spit in My Food?

I went out with some friends to eat at a sit-down resturant. I should have known it was going to be a bad experience from the beginning. The host seated us in a nice booth. Great! Five, ten, fifteen minutes went by and still no waiter. The host walked passed and I stopped her to ask where our waiter was. She went to go find him/her. She came back right away and said, "she's busy". Okay, we thought. The host said that she would go ahead and take our drink orders. I asked her if she new how long it was going to take before we could actually order our meal. Since we had waited so long, we knew what we wanted to eat. The host said that it should'nt take long, our waitress should be here to serve us shortly. Our waitress finally came to our table unapologitic and asked what we wanted to order. We ordered. Our meal finally arrived after about 15 minutes. My creamy spinach was cold and my flat iron steak was not medium rare like I asked for. The steak was more like medium well and was not tender like a flat iron steak usually is. It was ver tough to eat dispite being cooked medium rare. I was conviced it was some other steak other than the flat iron I ordered. Our waitress never stopped by our table to asked how the meal was or if we needed anything. My friends kept telling me to complain and demand to get a warmer creamy spinach and the medium well flat iron steak I asked for. I kept saying, "no, no i'll just eat this". My hesitency was because like many of us, I believe that if you complain too much, the chef or the waiter may potentially spit in your food. However, when paying for food, you do expect it to be exactly what you wanted and ordered. Do I settle for a meal this is all wrong, or do I demand that I get what I paid for and take a risk at getting spit in my food? It's a hard decision to make. That's something I juggle with alot when I go out to eat and the service/food is bad. What decision do you usually make?

If I go to a restraunt and things dont come out the way they should I would ask for the manager usually they will take it off the bill if you dont want it replaced now im like you with thinking about someone spitting on the food. also at the time I paid my bill I would tell the manager thwe food was not what was expected and I want a discount. most are pretty accomadating , sometimes if I have to get loud because they arnt seeing it my way they change there mind.

I appreciate your suggestion. If I do decide to just settle and eat the meal I wasn't happy with, by talking to a manager I could get it at a discounted price or even taken off the bill all together. Good suggestion.

I would have complained. You are going out to enjoy a meal and you are paying for good service. I have worked in the food industry before and I have never seen anyone actually spit in the food. It gets joked about, but it has never happened in any of the places I have worked. If the food is bad let them know.

You hope that know one would actually spit in your food, but you just never know and don't want to take chance. However, It does give me some comfort knowing that you have worked in the food industry yourself and never experienced that.
