Anyone else in the military or military spouse? We are gearing up for hubby's first deployment. I'm really hating the thought of him being gone that long to a war zone, but this is his job and he has to do it. I will be on my own with four kids. On one hand, I have to say I do enjoy the benefits of being an Army wife. Is anyone else on deployment or have a spouse that's deployed?

My husband might or might not be deploying soon. He's in ALS right now, so he won't be going if they leave within the next month or so, but if it's after that, there's a good chance he will be going, too. I'm getting a little bit nervous about it. It will be his first deployment, too. He's been here since Aug 2004, but he's somehow never been deployed. There has always been something going on to prevent it. This time Airmen Leadership School might be what stops it. We only have one child (a 20 month old), but I am still not looking forward to it. I don't want to be left alone up here (North Dakota) during the winter. But I guess it's something we signed up for when we married our military men, or agreed when our husbands said they wanted to be military men. I'm very proud of my husband, and I'm glad he is doing a job that we can be proud of. I love him, and I will support him through this deployment if he goes.

Just wanted to say God Bless to you and yours! We can never say 'Thank You' enough to our brave men and women for the tremendous service they perform in defending us and our country. Thank you!

Thank You! It means a lot to hear there are still people out there willing to say they support our troops.

The first deployment is always the hardest. Not that it gets any easier after the first one, but at least you know what to expect. My husband got back in April of this year from Iraq from his second deployment. One thing I will advise is that you don't get used to the extra money that you get while he is deployed. My advise is to put every dime of the extra money in a svaings account and don't touch it unless an emergency comes up. Best of luck to your family.

My husband is not deployed but, we are now retired military! been there done that. He missed a lot of holidays, birthdays and special events for our 4 children. Did it for 20 years! I am so proud of my husband and children are too! I have one now in the military! You will do fine! It will be hard but just remember and make sure your children remember that daddy is fighting for us to be able to speak our mind, school, to pray, and be free! Thank him for me!!!

Thanks so much for the kind words. I hear such negative things about our troops and it makes me mad. I'm also very proud of my husband. I know we will all be ok while he's gone.

my partner is going to afganistan in april, this will be the 2nd time he's been sent off. He was in iraq in 2005 for 6mths. It was hard, but we were in contact everyday thanks to Eblueys. He did also have a 2 week break which we made the most off :) i have to say i'm a lot more worried about this tour than i was the last!!

My husband is in the USMC. Luckily, he hasn't been deployed yet, even though his platoon has been deployed 7 times! There's rumor he'll have to go next August, but he's planning on going to TBS in Quantico, so hopefully he'll miss that one, too.
