I had a teacher in 4th grade who bought gloves for anyone who sucked their thumbs or bit their nails in class. As soon as you sat down, you got your gloves and you wore them all day. By the end of the year, those kids were broken of the habits. If you can get her to keep them on, gloves might work. I know there's also a nail biting preventer you can put on her nails that will likely stop her, but I don't remember what it's called. It tastes really nasty, so it makes a person not want their fingers in their mouth.

i had asked the doctor the same question when my little girl sucked her thumb. her too didnt use a pacifacer.. she has sucked her thumb since she was 6 months old... i have tried all the different ways people have told me and i read in books and magizine and on line of what i shlud do, noithing was satisfiing enough to her to get her to stop. so finally when she was about 4 i started talking to her about school and she got sooo excited, so i kept on her and told her daily everytime i saw her with her thumb in her mouth "big girls go to school, babies suck there thumbs" and after a few months she stopped sucking her thumb... ocacsionally i will go in her room and kiss her in the middle of the night i will see her thumb in her mouth and remove it, but other than that. the whole school thing worked for her.. it just depends on how badly and quickly you want to get her to stop

Tie a glove or mit on her hand. A wool mitten or just the thumb of a wool mitten will discourage her because it won't feel good in her mouth.

Thumb sucking means the child is insecure or has anxiety and thumbsucking is their pacifier of their emotion. Make the 3 year old busy playing and he forgets his thumb. But when he is free, he will sure suck his thumb. My grand children after their play would stay in one place and began their thumbsucking. Maybe you put something bitter on his thumbs.
