Just been flicking through the channels, and saw a programme titled "Days of our lives" thought to myself Joey, friends? decided to check it out. Nothing to do with him as far as i can tell, but what i can't tell is whether it's a serious soap opera?! The acting is terrible! Do Americans have any soaps like ours ( england) (depressing ones like eastenders and coronation street lol) all we get to see is the like's of Dallas, dynasty, Knots landing etc and they aren't about your everyday people. Are all american soaps about the rich?

Most daytime soap operas here have characters from a variety of backgrounds. There are lower class, middle class and upper class characters. They all seem to be able to interact and mingle together, unless their differences are used to create a storyline. The night time soaps, however, do tend to focus more on the rich. I suppose it's a way of escape, to imagine yourself in their lifestyle.
