Do you hang clothes outside?

After washing clothes I usually hang them outside specially when there's enough heat from the sun. My husband made me 4 clothes line to hang outside. I just use our dryer when it's really needed, like if it's always raining or snowing that we can't hang our clothes out. I think it's more better to hang our clothes outside since it dries fast and it smells better. Using the dryer too much can also make our clothes shrink. i know we also save on electricity if we don't always use our dryer, but it also helps me in the winter time when i need to dry clothes. how about you? do you hang clothes outside or not? Tell us how you dry your clothes.

I wish I could! But I would be afraid someone would steal my underwear. I live on the ground floor...so I can't do it. I would like to when I move into a house though.

hehehe :) i was just curious to know who would want to steal your underwear. maybe it's expensive ? or someone secretly likes you or obsessed with you that they will just steal your underwear to sniff it? :) (LOL teasing)i know there are only few people who will use someone elses underwear. so it might just be the reasons i'm thinking of why someone would steal someone's underwear.

My dryer - My gas dryer used most times for clothes drying
In the warmth of summer and spring I hang some clothes outdoors to be dried by the sun. I love the smell of line dried clothes. They smeel so much better than fabric softener sheet scents. I have to get some new lines for our yard though. Most the time I use our dryer. We have a gas dryer and it helps to add some heat in our basement in the colder months. So all around it's a benefit either way I dry my clothes. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Yeah, my mom does that.. We have two clothes line outside, one on the terrace and one in the open garage.. She usually hangs out all the clothes ovr thr after washing them.. They dry out very fast over there when the sun is out.. But when its raining, she prefers to hang clothes on foldable clothes stands which she places inside the attic...

Yes, I always do. We have a spacious yard and like you, my husband also made 2 lines for me. When it's summer, it only usually takes 2 hours for the clothes to dry. And yes, the clothes smells much better when it's dried by the heat of the sun. I usually use Downy fabric softener so the clothes will smell much more fresher.

Well Claire I am grown the old fashioned way where we do handwashing and hang ou clothes on lines to dry. Yes your clothes will smell better but if youa re not very careful you will lose the colour in no time too if left in the sun too long. I wash in the evenings/nights so my clothes hang outside and I normally take them up before I leave for work.

Hi Claire, Yes I would love to do that, only I dont have room for a clothes line, I live in an apartment complex. I used to have a clothes line, and only used the dryer when I couldnt hang them out. This really helps on your utility bills not running the dryer. My mom used to hang our clothes outdoors all the time while I was growing up. I really like the smell have once they dry. Just smells good to me. Bay xx

I love to hang my clothes outside to dry, it makes them smell so much fresher than just being dryed in a dryer. In the spring, summer, and fall, I try to hang my clothes outside as much as possible if it is not raining. In the winter I do on those days when it is warm enough to dry the clothes. I also think it helps to cut down on the heat in the house in the summer, and helps to heat the house in the winter when you use the clothes dryer.

if someone is stealing your clothes outside then just stop hanging them there since maybe it's not a good place to hang clothes there. maybe you should just use the dryer or just hang them inside to prevent this from happening again. God bless!

For the most part I use a dryer. But whenever I can I love hanging my rugs, bedding, towels, and curtains outside as they smell so fresh! The sun also helps bleach out whites so whenever I can I hang out my whites too. There is nothing more wonderful then crawling between sheets that have hung outside or drying yourself after you shower with a fresh smelling towel!

yes, i remember some people like to bleach their whites out in the sun. i don't do that but i'm just used to hanging clothes out when there's enough sun heat to dry it. God bless!

I live in an apartment and do not have a dryer. But I do have two balconies, one at the hall and one in the master. So I will usually ask my maid to hang the wet clothes on a standing rack at any of the balconies, whichever has the sun shining in. That has been the way we dry our clothes all these years.

At least there's still sun light and it works good on you through the years. if you have a lot of clothes, having a dryer will be a great help too since you are living in an apartment where space is very limited to hang clothes. have a nice day lexus54 :)

In the spring, summer and fall I hang my clothes out to dry because it's much cheaper than the electric bill and yes my clothes get this fresh air smell instead of a bland smell from the dryer. However my jeans get stiff as a board and have to be put into the dryer for about 10 minutes to soften up some. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who still hangs clothes outside!! LOL

yes you are not just the only one that stil hang clothes outside catsanddogs, a lot of people still do it because like you said it helps you pay less on your electric bill and the clothes smells fresher. with jeans i use to dry it first for couple of minutes in the dryer then put them out in the line to totally dry, and i do that with our towels too. Nice to see you and God bless!

Hi, Claire! Back in Indo we used to hang our clothes on a landing on top of our kitchen. We made the landing especially to hang our clothes. Now in Finland it's usually cold outside, so we just hang our clothes in the bathroom. There are two clothes line to hang 'em and I find that they get dry pretty quickly (in a day).

Correction: I mean above our kitchen he he he...so there is a stairwell to that landing from our kitchen. ;-D

I occasionally hang things out on the clothes line, but not often. Mainly I like to hang sheets and towels out on the line but most of our clothing I dry in the clothes dryer. My husband does not like the stiff feel of jeans dried on the line and I don't like the allergens that attatch themselves to our clothes when they are outside. It would not bother me except that I spend all day sneezing!

Same here, after washing my clothes i usually hang it outside in the sun. Since I live in a tropical country, most of the time it's quite sunny here so I prefer hanging them outside :-) Yeah you are right, clothes tend to shrink if we frequently use the dryer. In addition to that, hanging clothes outside contributes towards saving electricity to some extend. Drying clothes outside adds a fresh smell to clothes aswell.

There is six in my family, four of them are kids!! So you can imagine the washing that I would have. The washing machine is going all day especially in the summer when I can put the washing out on the washing lines. In the winter the washing machine still goes on everyday but not as many times cos the kids are indoors and dont get as dirty lol! In the winter I put the clothes on the radiators in the house and they dry their when the heating is on. We also have a dryer too but like you it only goes on when it is really needed cos of the running costs. The dryer would be on every second day for about half an hour in the winter just to air the clothes.

i used to do so. but there is no chance to hang the cloth outside after we remove to live in the city. there is no enough room for us to do that. it is hardly to do so without others' complain. we have to hang them inside. as you know, it is not very good. but we would not to worry whether there will be a rain.

hi... we usually hang it all out under the sun... yup, it does smell better.. furthermore, i was told that it has sanitizing effect, killing microogranisms. moreover, you are so right, i does save alot in our energy comsumption. electricity is getting to be more expensive.... btw, i can't seem to remember the dryer wool and which type of water makes the clothes shrink, cold or hot...LOL... waiting for your answer...thanks!

Hi claire03, I will hang the clothes outside because it dries faster. My country here do not season periods, so i do not have to worry on this. Besides that , my dad tells us is better dry under the sun which is good for our body. So normally i will hang the clothes outside before i go to work and take it in when i back home for my lunch. I won't lige more expensive clothes dry too long under the sun which will spoil it condition. Your husband treat you so nice which will help you do some part of housework!!
