A man got arrested for sincerely trying to pass a $1,000,000 dollar bill! He was not joking. He even got a little violent when refused. They had to call the police. Read about it here. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/10/09/ap/strange/main3346223.shtml I'm guessing the man is mentally retarded. What do you think?

Well, I just added another bookmark. This looks like a very good site, and might make for a few posting ideas if I ever get the urge.

I read this earlier while I was checking the myLot news. I don't know if he was retarded or what, but he sure did not use good judgment. What kind of idiot would seriously think that a grocery store would have that kind of change in the first place, and what makes him think that they would even fall for such a thing? In the words of Jeff Foxworthy "Here's your sign".... :)

Something I'd like to know about the case is that if he believed it was real, what did he do to come into possesion of it? What was it he did or traded that he thought it was worth $1,000,000. On a side note, my brother-in-law made me up a TRILLION DOLLAR BILL and sent it to me as a GIF image via email. He said that if I was able to spend or cash it to let him know as there were more where that came from.

"Police believe the $1 million note seized at the supermarket may have originated at a Dallas-based ministry. Last year, the ministry distributed thousands of religious pamphlets with a picture of President Grover Cleveland on a $1 million bill." I am thinking it is a matter of a good inkjet printer and and a picture of the front and back of a $1 million bill. This has happened, but usually in smaller (a LOT smaller) denominations. That is part of the reason for the special paper and the other measures that have been taken against counterfeiting. Modern printers are VERY good.

Thanks, I missed that as to the possible orgin of the bogus bucks. Now, that you mention it, I do remember seeing a 20/20 some years ago that highlighted this problem of modern technology becoming counterfeiting for DUMMIES.

Well as you say the man must be mentally challenged or else incredibly naive. In this day and age people do not carry around large denomination bills. As the article pointed out in the US the largest denomination is $ 100. In Canada a $ 1000. bill is still legal tender but the production of it was phased out 2000. I doubt very much if any store would even give you change for such a bill. If you found one under your Grandma's mattress you would be well advised to take it to a bank to avoid a confrontation such as described in the article. P.S I was away for a while and I notice your star is now number 1. How did you manage that?

That is so sad, but sadly also the truth. Keep on posting, you have raised so many interesting topics and by the way I have always rated you positively.

How to get a #1? Well, if you check on the right day, I don't even have a star. How do you manage that? Discuss politics, the Iraq war, issues of race, and religion honestly in a non PC way. Then the passive aggressive low socially skilled people will overwhelmingly rate you with a minus driving down your star. I would like to point out that I've never had a post deleted or received a warning from myLot. There just really are some people here who can not tolerate opposing points of view. It is a sad thing, but that's their problem.
