After reading the whole book, do you still keep it?

I have many books at home. Some were just given to me, others were being purchased from the book stores. I read books more often, trying to do some research as part of my profession. I have also some books that are not so important such as comics, pocket books, etc., and were just only being kept inside the cabinet. I am planning if I am going to sell it online, give it to my friends, or store it anyway for future reference. How about you, do you have a lot of books at home? If so, do you still keep it or do you sell and/or give it to others after reading the whole story?

I used to keep every book, but after a recent move and realizing almost half the packed boxes were just books, it gave me pause. I really, really had too many books. So I went through them pretty mercilessly and got rid of the ones that I hadn't absolutely loved. I kept only ones that had really touched me, or I wanted to read again, or might want to loan to a friend. I also got rid of books that I've had for years and never got around to reading. I'm going to make more of an effort to use the library for reading material and not hoard so many books.

Maybe when you are through with books you already have, the library might want them. I don't know though, but I've often thought of seeing if the library could get any use out of books I no longer read.

I don't know about the library near you, but the ones near us have book sales once or twice per year for books that have been discarded from the library shelves. A lot of times the books that I donate go to these sales. It's a nice way to help the library, even if they can't necessarily use the books on the shelves.

that's a very good idea. When I purged pre-move, I gave lots away to friends, then the rest to a tag sale for a special education advocacy organization that had helped me when my son was struggling in school.

Yeah, I do keep them.. I don't a particular book only once.. I read every book twice or thrice, but with a certain time gap in between, like 3-4 mnths.. After that, I just stack them in my mini library, from where I can lend them to my friends and relatives...

I keep all our books except for some pocket books that we have picked up at the thrift store. Usually these go to garage sales. I am not that altruistic person who when I finish reading something, give it away. Also our thrift store does not accept all books, and the ones I want to keep are the ones that they want. I do have a library of classics, which I will read again after some time. When we lived in Saskatchewan there were several trade in bookstores where you could bring in a book and get half off for it, so if you brought in two books, you got one of equal value. There is no place like that in Manitoba where we are. I guess that part about Manitobans, espec. Winnipeggers being charitable is not because they are necessarily, but because they have no other choice.

I do have many books. Some text books from college, but most are ones I've either bought, or been given as a gift. A go to gift for me when no one knows what to buy me, is a book. I finally started to sell the books I wasn't too attached to on www.half.com. I recently quit doing that, but it was helpful for a few years. Some books I will keep because of who gave them to me, because there are only a few books I like so much I know I could read again and again and again. : )

I used to have a little library in which I kept my favorite books as well as a shelf of books I wanted to read. It was a great sunny room with a writing table and floor pillows. I was hoping my girls would enjoy it as I did. Also many reference type books as well as childrens books. I moved to a smaller place and I got rid of all my books...donated them to the salvation army. Now I only keep a small pile of books to read and a couple reference books. I pass them on as soon as I read them. I also use the library frequently.

I usually love to own a good book and I have a good collection too. You can if you want to join this site and share your books with other people across the world. You leave your book somewhere out there and the person who pick it up tells all about it to the others and its interesting to see where your book finally ends up. to know more go here: http://www.bookcrossing.com/

Oh yes, I do keep it...until I run into an ebook version of it. It doesn't make any sense for me to keep a book if I do have an ebook that has much more features like a DVD over a video tape. Unless the book has an extra feature that is different from the original, and is different from the ebook original, then I keep it. Otherwise, I sell it or give it away.

Well, I love collecting books and I have a whole lot of them. I don't want to sell them. And most of my books are regarding spiritualism and yoga. I do have a few novels and story books, but I don't intend selling them either. I would rather keep a collection and whenever I feel like going back to them, I could just pick one of them read again some day.

I usually keep my books because there are times when I forgot the details or some parts of the books and would like to remember them so it would be handy if they are just there and not in my friend's house.

Yes, especially if it is something that teaches a lesson or will never gets obsolete. My kids love to read also. I want them to have those books when they grow up. So, they will learn from it also. Books to me are treasures. Another window for learning. Aside, of course, a passion and past time.

I generally buy books at Goodwill for cheap prices, and after I read it, I rarely keep it. Sometimes I give it to a friend to read or back to Goodwill. I only keep the books that are my favorites, which aren't too many.

If the book was given to me, after I read the whole I keep it. I also keep the book that I think I'll need in the future as my reference. There are books that I give to my friends or to somebody who like it, mostly novel books.

I keep them all, I always put them on a shelf so I can find them easily if ever I want to read them again. I love reading, as it was told that reading makes us GROW more as a person/individual. These made me realize to value everything, since it'll help us in decision makings and have wisdom as well.

If i bought the book I will keep it, of course. Books are like a treasure for me, I love to keep them....besides, one never knows when he's going to feel like re-reading any of them, so if they're available it's cool.

Yes, I will still keep the book even if I have already read it. As one day when I feel bored, perhaps I will read it again. After some time, I may forget the detailed content and I need to review it. And I can even leave books for my child. Books are always the best gift for children.

After reading the books, I still keep them if they are valuable and helpful to me. I love to buy classic books that are worth keeping on the bookshelf and friends can also borrow my books if they want to read them on condition that they do not spoil my books. I usually tell them to take care of my books like I do. When a book is spoiled, I do not like it and nor will I keep it. I love it to be well kept in good condition. lol

We have lots of books also at home, most of them owned by my mother who's a retired teacher. Most of those books were donations that my mother requested from the Book for Asia Foundation. We still have them though they're very very old and obsolete. Most of those are used workbooks and textbooks from schools in the US. I don't want to discard old books because even if they're old, I know they can be used later as references. We may never know it but they will be useful one of days, just like those books that my mother requested. I happen to use some of them in my children's school lessons (science and math especially). I also found one that I used when I took up a course in education. Why don't you donate some of your old books to me? I'm planning to put up a mini library and reading club for underpriviledge school children in our village. I cannot thank you enough if you donate some to me. Best regards.

Hi braveheart. I a lot of books in my house in fact. Haha. I am not going to sell them but I will give to my friends if they really love any of them. I don't really like to sell book as I can't predict who will be the next owner for these books. I would give away my books only if I know that he/she is a person who love the book as much as I do.
