Do you Live to Eat or Eat to Live?

Hello there. I am just curious. What type of a person are you? Are you the type who Live to Eat or Eat to Live? I have many friends who claim to Live to Eat. They will spend lavishly on good food and they will also travel long distances just to eat. To them, if one is to eat, one must eat well. I also have another group of friends who Eat to Live. They believe that eating is just a way to get energy to perform daily tasks. They are not particular about food. They eat whatever that comes their way. Personally, I am a Live to Eat person. I believe in eating well and I do not eat for the sake of eating. However, if I am really starving, I'll just eat whatever food that's within my reach.

I love the movie Over the Hedge. According to the Racoon, animals eat to live but humans live to eat! It's a cute movie...if you haven't seen it. I eat to live, because if I didn't have to eat...I wouldn't. There are a lot of things we have to do that I'd love to never do again if we didn't have to. Like showering. ha ha. or going to the bathroom. But seriously... I like food, but I forget to eat and therefor only eat to live.

I hate being wet! I hate having to dry off. It's just annoying. So if you could shower without being wet, I'd be more for it. I mean, I shower, don't get me wrong, but I'm in there and out pretty quickly and I like to get as dry as possible as fast as possible!

Well, I cannot say for sure if I am the Eat-to-live or the Live-to-eat. My wife thinks that I am the latter. Heh heh... judging from my size, I would say I agree. I used to have a motto : 'Rather die a happy fat man than a skinny hungry man'. I mean, like your friends, life is tough. We work hard all day, the one thing one can look forward to at the end of the day is a good meal. The joys of sharing a good meal with a love one is really priceless! I was watching discovery channel the other day and there was this show on how a man is traveling all over the world in search of bizarre food. I like the motto he has. 'If it looks good, EAT IT!' ;)

LOL What a great motto you have! You sound like a gourmet. I am not adventurous when it comes to food. Bizarre food is not my cup of tea. I remember this food show that used to be shown on Channel 5. I can't remember the title. They go around China looking for bizarre food (ie. different animal parts) to eat. I find it very gross and will never dare to eat them. Thanks for sharing. =D

I know which show you are referring to. That show was gross! More that a show on how to eat disgusting food and live to tell about it rather than showcasing bizarre foods! I guess it is meant to be that way. Terrible show. Never bothered to watch it after the first episode. When they say bizarre food, it doesn't have to be disgusting. It is just different and strange to non-locals that make it bizarre. Take for example, in the Ridley's record, it was written that asians would pay lots of money to eat a delicacy made of vomit. To the caucasians, bird nest (made from swallows spit) is a bizarre food. But to us, it is one of the nicest delicacy one can find. Like for example, the turducken that I found out about, is a bizarre way of cooking the birds. Something that I would really like to try!

Haha. True indeed. I still remember Durians and Century Eggs were featured in Fear Factor! To the westerners, Durians and Century Eggs are bizarre food. To us, it's yummy especially Durians! Yum yum =P

I am not the person who lives to eat.. I just eat to live.. I don't like induling in anything and everything.. Even just the regular food will do.. There are a whole lot of priorities other than indulging in different different foods...

I would say, I love to eat and not live to eat. Hehe. But I love to eat good nutritious food, but within my limits and not hog. Sometimes, my hunger is really bad, and I'm known to have a huge appetite. But, even though I have a huge appetite I really don't care about food. If the food is there, I shall eat, if it's not there, I don't care. I can live on air. Hehehe. I see many people are so bothered and caught up with, "Oh my God, I haven't had my breakfast yet", "Oh my God, my lunch"...But I'm never bothered about these things. When my mind is busy with something, it's just busy. Am not attached to food. But I do love to eat good food, but don't dream of it. :D

Haha. I get what you mean. Some people eat for the sake of eating and not because they feel hungry. Good that you love nutritious food. You must be a healthy person. =D Thanks for responding.

I eat to live. It's not only eating that we're here in this world. I eat in order to have energy and to keep me going because I have still other purpose in life that needs to be done. So to keep me up and alive in order to fulfill those things I have to eat.

in my countrys case..we basically eat to live....its our primary concern....there are very few chances that we may what we want because of the financial problem. so we have to bear the taste of the food that is served right in front of us

I guess I am in the "Eat to Live" group... I mean, I don't consider eating a waste of time or anything but I don't see it as my purpose in life either. I guess I am situated somewhere in the middle... I enjoy eating what I like and sometimes it feels great to go out with my boyfriend and our friends to eat a pizza or a stake. But I don't see how I could get up in the morning and the first thing I think about would be what I would eat that day... sounds pretty weird, doesn't it?

Me too is a "Live to eat kind of person" i enjoy eating tasty food, but i dont eat just for the sake of eating, i eat only when i'm hungry.(but the fact is that i'm hungry all most all the time!) I have a friend who just eats only what is necessary so that he is capable of doing his daily tasks, i respect him for what he does, but for me eating has two purposes, 1) to sustain my life 2) its also a means of enjoying my life.

Yea. Eating can be an enjoyment too. I think you have high metabolism and that's why you are hungry all the time. It's important to eat only when we are hungry if not eating too much is not good for our health. Thanks for sharing.

if only I have a choice, I will Live to Eat. But since the foods I like are mostly not available when I want to eat them, then I have not choice but to Eat to Live. hehehe. I'm a picky eater that's why I'm always on diet.

I think that i do a little of both. At times i just eat because i need to. Other times i like to go out of my way to that one restuarant that has the best of something. Or i buy those special ingredients for that one dinner that i have been dying to have. And in some cases its a bowl of cereal or left overs in the fridge.
