I have read that many people have too much salt in their diet. I am surprised to find out that salt is added to lots of processed food like corn flakes. Do you have a healthy diet? Do you avoid anything in your diet for health reasons?

Any food intake should be applied in appropriate or moderate quantity. Salt(sodium chloride) normally used for preservative and seasoning. Too much or too little salt in our diet can cause neurological problems, muscle cramps or dizziness. Too much salt intake, of course in general will cause high blood pressure. I tried to follow the food pyramid diagram for my healthy diet. I avoid taking farm chicken for my allergy problem, but for spring chicken will do.

Thanks for your wonderful response. So there is also a danger in having too little salt. I think must people do not know how much salt is safe to eat.

I don't use it! - salt shaker
I tried to explain this to my mother just the other day. Salt is needed to preserve food or it would accumulate bacteria. It's for this reason that I have not used salt in my food for years. It's already there so why add more?

Thanks for your superb response. I never add salt to my food, however in the case of cornflakes it is already there.

I am the type of person that doesn't like salty taste in my food. My husband does, though. Probably why he has some health issues. I can eat food even without any salt in it. I like to eat potatoes of any sort and there are times when I eat fries I don't like putting any salt in them at all. There's a family member who likes putting too much salt in food. I get queasy eating them and afterwards my foot will be in pain probably from eating that salty stuff.

Oh, I love to use vinegar as dip for many food. It's not the plain white vinegar, though. I buy it from a local vinegar maker here in the Philippines. It's good tasting and doesn't upset my stomach as I have a rather sensitive tummy, I have acid reflux. Sometimes I eat my fries without anything at all.LOL Just that. Yeah, my husband most of the time is hard headed but he's learning to take precautionary measures nowadays. Thank you for your very nice words. I really do appreciate it.

It is great that you avoid eating salty foods. What do you put on your fries? If I eat fries I put vinegar on them, never salt. It is a shame that your husband has health issues. I wish you both good health.

I really like the taste of vinegar as well. Hopefully it is better for us than salt. I have cut out salt in everything but corn flakes and pistachio nuts.

I don't have a healthy diet. I try to do better, but I always seem to fall back on bad habits. I do drink a lot of water, but I eat a lot of junk, so it doesn't really matter, you know? I like salty foods, more than sweets actually, but I don't eat a lot of salt. I'm slender and it surprises me that my body is in pretty good shape. I'm sure my habits will sneak up on me when I'm older.

Yes, many of us can fall into bad habits. As one person on My Lot said taste is found when we are young like in babyhood or childhood. It is so challenging to change our tastes when we are older. I am glad that you are slender and in good health. I hope that you will be as well when you become old.

I am trying to avoid eating too much salt in the food as I know that it is bad for our health. I used to like salted eggs, but I don't like it very much as it is too salty. I am starting to like food with less salt.

It is great that you are starting to like food with less salt. An adult person should have less than 2 to 3 grams of salt each day.

Well I try to eat healthy and cut out fats and sorts. I actually don't have salt on my food unless it's already there like fries on take out meals. I am trying to lose weight so I have cut down on a lot and have smaller portions as opposed to what I use to have before. I still have a treat now and then though.

It is great that you eat a smaller portions of food than you used to. Good luck with getting to your ideal weight. I think having a treat sometimes will not harm your diet. My partner eats a very healthy diet but feels very tired these days. His problem is a lack of exercise.

Taking in a too much salt is indeed unhealthy for the body since salt has this tendency to decrease the amount of fluid in our body... but i am not that concern about salt because unlike other people... i am not that fond of eating salty food... but i try to avoid using monosodium glutamate... there are many junk food and processed food that use this... too much monosodium glutamate is a lot more dangerous than salt because this can cause cancer...

I think many people do not realize how bad junk foods can be. Monosodium glutamate is put in some foods to add flavor. However any ingredient that can cause cancer should not be used in food production. Too much salt can cause high blood pressure that in turn can bring on a stroke. Thanks for your superb response.

Some food like hot chips (fries) can be very oily. I now like to eat it once a month and have plenty of vinegar and no salt. I don't eat cake very often, once or twice a year. I am trying to have healthy snacks like carrots.
