Ever since my son was born I called him baby. He is now 4 and I still call him baby as he will always be my baby. He might have mild autism so his speach is behind other kids his age. So imagine my suprise when I called him baby (I said give me a hug baby) and he said nooooo I not baby I growing up. I had tears in my eyes. I guess he is not my baby any more. When did you realised you kids were not "babies" any more

I do not remember a concrete time. My son is 7. I like very much when he says "when I was a little child...." And I always ask back, "why are not you a little child yet?" He is still my baby. And yes, he says sometiems that he is not a little boy or baby, but he is.

Oh that is classic I love that me and my nephew when we were small used to both say (well not at the same time 19 years apart) when I was a grown up instead of when I was a little child. My friends daughter said once (she was about 3) when I was small and her mother said oh whwn was that and she said oh mum last tuesday.

Hi Silvana I know what you mean he will always be my baby but there is a time in your life when you realise that you are not going to be their No 1 for ever. Soon he will start school and god wiling he will have lots of friends. His comment made me realise that he is growing up indeed and he has realised that there is a big change that he is growing and that kids dont stay kids forever and that mummy and daady did not just happen to be there when he got here and that we were kids too. To a point I belive that what made him realise is that I have taken all my photo albums down to scan the photos and was showing him the pictures of everyone and expecially me when I was a baby.

Hi violeta.I still call my daughter "baby"she does not like it,haha.Shes 4 1/2 years old and noticed it when she started turning 4 years old,she said "Im not a baby, babies are small and im big!Im a big girl now mommy."As like you they will always be our babies, its just that we will not call them this, only in our hearts.I miss her as a baby, they grow up so fast and i think its especially hard on us mothers to see it. when I call him baby I dont mean it in the clasic way as in small I mean as in he is my baby. Its good that they know that they are no longer babies and that they know that they are growing up.
