Quick tip for dealing with a burn.

By nature, I'm a very clumsy person. Not sure why. I'm just that way. And, over the years, I've received my fair share of burns while cooking and ironing. Once I ironed up over the top of my thumb by accident while using a brand new iron. The under side of the iron was too slick and I put too much pressure on the iron and it slipped. That's an experience I don't want to relive anytime soon. I had a half inch scar on the top of my hand for years. Most times the traditional burn remedies don't work for me. One day I got a pretty bad burn from the top of my mini-toaster oven and didn't have any burn cream in the house. So, I reached for the first cream that I could find and that happened to be Noxema. The pain from the burn went away almost immediately after applying the Noxema. I think there's some type of eucalyptus in the formulation or other healing properties. It worked for me. The no name brand generic version doesn't work on burns. I didn't get a scar from the experience either. Just wanted to pass that along, just in case it could help. Do you have any suggestions for dealing with burns? Please feel free to list them here.

I would have never thought. My son just recently got a burn from a girl using an eraser on the back of his hand. LOL don't ask. anyway, i've been cleaning it with hibicleanse (sp) and putting neosporin on it. I think its going to leave a scar. I don't use Noxema but I might keep a small bottle around just for that. thank you for sharing.

One time I took my daughter to a carnival and she ended up with a rope burn on her elbow. We took her to the St John Ambulance people and they iced it and bandaged it for her. I mentioned that when I got her home I would put some 'bonjela' on the burn. Bonjela is the gel that you put on a baby's gums when they are teething, it takes away the pain. The ST Johns volunteer was very impressed with my thinking. That has always been my first response to burns. I always keep bonjela in the house for that reason. Its a little sticky to put on burns but it sure numbs them. Another option is SM33... the stuff you put on mouth ulcers. That will numb it quickly too.

I have tried aloe before it helps some. I burned my right arm the same year I had to quit work in 2001. My right leg gave out on me and my right elbow all the way to my hand got burned on the grill I was cooking on at work.

I'm just now healing up from a horrible bacon grease burn I got a couple of weeks ago. My whole family got onto me because I didn't go to the doctor over it. When the burn first happened I ran cool water over it to get the bacon grease off. I then put lots and lots of aloe on it. After that I just let it air out and kept applying aloe to see what happened. Later that day it blistered up. My whole family wanted me to go to the doctor to have my blister drained but I refused. A few days later the blister drained on its own. From that point on I kept putting this stuff called Purely Clear on the area to avoid infection. I also put Vitamin E oil on the area to prevent scarring. Now that I've run out of that stuff I've been putting neosporin on the area and it seems to be healing just fine. Hopefully I'll have no scarring from this.

I find that suprising because I THOUGHT that Noxema had a warning on it not to use it one damaged skin. The best think I ever use for a burn was thi burn gel that came in a little packet and the medecind cabinet at the Tim Hortons that I worked at a few years back. You put that stuff on and the burn stopped hurting immediatly. They also had a can of cold....that's right a can of cold....you spray it on the burn and it gets really cold. That stuff worked good too.

Thank you for that tip. I, like yourself, am also clumsy. Especially burning my self. It's a running joke with everyone. I even had "ring of fire" dedicated to me because that is exactly what I did... Fell into a burning ring of fire, and scorched my shoulder. Also burned my stomach with boiling what at 3 months pregnant. Believe me, there's plenty more.... Nice to know I am not alone. Think I will go buy some noxema and give it a try. Thanks again

That sounds like a good little tip, I always just run cold water over mine, I haven't burnt myself for quite some time so tell me when you ironed over your thumb did it iron out the wrinkles, maybe you have discovered a new way to get rid of wrinkles LOL.
