Fruit flies in my kitchen!

I have a problem and am looking for suggestions. I have fruit flies...a lot of them! There is absolutely NO food items left out, All fruits, veggies, potatoes, etc are in the fridge. All other food is in cupboards (which the fruit flies are not in. I have cleaned my garbage disposal and my trash is confined. My pet food is in my laundry room (no fruit flies in there) But every morning when I get up, I have a huge swarm of fruit flies come out of my garbage disposal and then they are around my sink area for the rest of the day. I have sprayed killer in the garbage disposal and left it to sit overnight and wake up to the same thing. I have fly strips hanging, and it catches some, but not enough to make a difference. I have bug-bombed my house (I actually do it once a month regardless), and still the same issue. Any suggestions?

That's been happening to us every year and we don't get it. We use the dish liquid Dawn, it has to be the regular one, the unscented, and vinegar, the plain stuff, and you mix that together in a bowl or a cup or a bucket, whatever you want, and it gets rid of them. They are attracted to it.

I've never heard of that (which means it is an alternative that I have yet to try), so I will be mixing it up tonight! Thanks for the suggestion!

I just received an email on this from one of my favorite websites, The Everyday Cheapskate. She said take a drinking glass, put one inch of apple cider vinegar and a few drops of lemon scented dishwashing detergent. It's surprising how quickly you will rid your house of fruit flies. If it works, let me know!

I have them in the U.K usually around this time of the year, every year. Would it have anything to do with the stream/river by our houses, because we don't leave out any food?

I was told that can be an issue by the exterminator. He told us it was not our problem, he wasn't sure why we had them so bad. But he did say that they collect in areas where there is water.

I think maybe its the neighborhood or your canals.. if flies keep on going back even you have that solutions you said.. then it must be surrounding or the canals.. where those flies are lurking when you spray your house! And always remember clean and green surroundings makes place nice to live! Hope it helps! Good Day!

I had them hanging out in my bathroom in the drain. I talked to an exterminator and he said the adult only lives 24 hours so if you get to the source you should be rid of them in two days.....he suggested baking powder and vinegar down the drain. I haven't seen any for a while so it must have worked!

Fruit flies are tiny and look like large knats. They are a nuissanse and I had never encountered them until I moved down south.

In tropical countries like mine we also have fruit flies everywhere.. My mom use to put them in the fridge so to avoid the fruitflies.. If we are having an occasions at home we use candles to shoo them away.
