Ba-Humbug! Does This Annoy You Too?

It's only the beginning of November. We only just got over Halloween, and here in America we still have our Thanksgiving to look forward to. BUT, already we're being bombarded with Christmas ads on TV and what gifts to get by many of the major store chains like Macy's, Wal-mart, K-mart, JC Penny, the list is endless. Now in years past, it was traditional that the official Christmas season didn't begin until the day after Thanksgiving, but yeesh, that is no longer true. Stores already have their Christmas cards, and decorations to buy, and like I said we're being bombarded with ads on TV, and already I'm in a grumpy ba-humbug mood. Now don't get me wrong I LOVE the Christmas season, I'm like a little kid and enjoys it to the hilt, but I just don't like this manipulation in a way of companies trying to promote the Christmas season on us so soon. Like yeah we know, we know, we know, Christmas is around the corner, just don't keep reminding us! So is it just me, or does anyone else get a bit ba-humbug about all the Christmas razmataz??

Around here, Christmas decorations were already out over a MONTH ago! So I've definitely been a bit "Grinch-y" about the whole affair. I love Christmas too, but the whole commercialism thing is getting a bit out of hand anymore. I wish the retailers would at least have the common decency to deal with the stresses of one holiday at a time instead of just bombarding us all at once. LOL!

Couldn't agree more. They say the holidays in general are the most stressful time to deal with, with all the frantic running around to get things done on time...so yes, it'd be at least nice to deal with one holiday at a time, instead of stores having side by side, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas all at once.

When I lived in cities and watched television I would get myself worked up into a murderous rage over that! Now that I'm out here in the country, and no longer watch television - I had to stop because every time a string of commercials would come on longer than the bit of program that I had been 'allowed' to watch, I would be ready to smash the set or something worse! I do watch movies though. (I used to use netflix but I switched over to gamez n flix because my kids bought stock in the company.) But back to the topic, now that I'm up here and no longer watch tv, I'm not subjected to that stuff anymore. What a pleasure it is to live in a community where each holiday is celebrated in it's time, without pressure to consume! consume!

Yeah I do, I still have the 2 brothers, and there are 2 kitties in an abandoned house up in the mountain that I take care of. I posted a response on an older discussion of yours where I talked about them a little bit too.

yes I know what you mean, my husband and I went to Walmart the other day and we were shopping and all of a sudden they we hear Christmas songs being played, at first I thought I was hearing things and then they played another song. Kind of takes away the excitement of Christmas when they start so early

Hehehe! I still have black lights around my window and my 7 foot mummy standing there and the grave markers are still in the yard. The pumpkins are looking a little sorry... I SURE wouldn't use one of them in a pie, but it'll probably stay that way till after Thanksgiving when it all comes down to make way for Christmas stuff.

Hehe..zigzagbuddha ...I still have pumpkins too, but they're in pretty good shape cause they're those real small decorative/ornamental kind so they seem to stay fresh longer..I have them all line around the cornecopia I had bought years ago, and have that stuff with fruit and leaves (fake) also, have some ornamental gourds so they all look both Halloweeny and Thanksgiving-ish

When's your birthday? Mine is November 19th just a few days before Thanksgiving. Yes, I wish they would wait until AFTER Thanksgiving--in the Walgreen's near me they have SOME of the leftover Halloween stuff, right next to all the Christmas stuff which has taken over the store big time--BA-HUMBUG

No, you're not alone. My local Value Village started putting out Christmas stuff in August, alongside the Hallowe'en stuff. Way too early for either. And then the day after Boxing Day (Dec. 26) everyone's taking down their Christmas trees. No one celebrates the "Twelve Days of Christmas" anymore, nevermind Advent. It won't be long before we see Valentine stuff in the stores. Why can't stores keep to the season that's occurring? Yeah, Bah! Humbug!

No your not the only one guaranteed we all are feeling the same way about it its not funny anymore , and we wonder why kids are the way they are now , they see it tjhey want it and they get it ... Thwen everyone complains on how unhealthy it is for our kids to be stuck in front of a computer, a tv, or whatever game they are into ... Its INSANE not right for the kids or for the parents , so where do the big companies get off starting so early ... KINDA RUINS CHRISTMAS FOR ALL OF US ....

Yes I think the store take the feeling of Christmas away because they start it too early, they just help make it commercial, I don't think they should even start with the decorations until the 1st of december.

Has commercialism hijacked our religious and cultural celebrations? When I was small, my father used to bring Christmas tree 2 days before Christmas... Yes, it is far too soon for shops to start cashing in on Christmas! I have been around long enough to remember about Christmas existence...

The old tradition in our family was to get the Christmas tree on Christmas eve..yikes they don't even sell trees that late now, but maybe start a few days after Thanksgiving and stop almost two weeks before.

Hi pye, Here in Canada we had our Thanksgiving on October 8th so their is no extra holiday for us between Hallowe'en and Christmas, BUT even before Hallowe'en got here this year I noticed that their was some Christmas stuff out! Seems each year they get the Christmas stuff out earlier and earlier. Have a good day hun! Luv & Hugzz, PurpleTeddyBear.

I think Christmas is way to commercialized now and they start earlier every year. It won't be long before Dec 26th begins the next Christmas season. Now a days the success of Christmas is directly proportionate to how much money you spend. This has robbed the holiday of any kind of true meaning as far as I am concerned. The almighty dollar governs everything now and I think it is quite sad.

Neutral on the subject. Though I know there are some places and even towns already getting their Christmas decorations up, its okay, nothing to ba-humbug about. Probably because not all the stations have turned to Christmas music! =P But ah, yes I do think there's plenty of head-start going on out there.

Yes I know exactly what you are talking about. I hate the fact that the commercials on these days due to Christmas is a lot to bare. I am just not ready to hear about Christmas and about the best presents to get. I want to be able to be relaxed for Thanksgiving and not have to be rushed for Christmas but now days those stores will not allow it.

It is a little bit crazy. I think most of stems from the fact that people are shopping earlier. Mostly to fit it in their budget. They are fighting the online shopping and with gas prices and trying to make the best of it.

i do agree with you on this one, i get the ba-humbug felling too. i used to work in retail, actually at a big lots store, and to tell you the truth i sis not looke forward to the end of october that is when we would get the start of the christmas stuff.by the end of november i was so sick of looking at christmas stuff i really didnt even want to do the shopping. now i am a stay at home mom and i am loving the thought of christmas this year.. i have already started shopping. i think it really makes a difference if you work in a retail store and when you dont. at the end of this month though i will probably start dreading christmas. because of the fact that i have 5 kids and my husband who is a big kid at heart to by for, i always think i am not getting the right things for them. oh well i guess i have taught my kids that it is not the presants that christmas is about. i just hope as they get older they dont change the way of thinking...

It seems like retail starts to push Christmas earlier and earlier each year. I used to work in retail. The most important thing to them is the dollar. It kind of kills the true meaning of Christmas. They want our money for the Christmas trees, lighting, gifts, etc. But they don't want their employees to say "Merry Christmas"? That always got me where I worked. If you want to take my money, don't tell me I can't use the word "Christmas".
