Who is your Conscience?

I was watching the special features on Ratatouille and for some reason my mind starting wandering about the conscience. In Ratatouille, Remy the Rat has a former great chef as a conscience of sorts. Or remember Pinocchio? Jiminy Cricket was the portrayal of Pinocchio's conscience. So those are Disney examples but there have been others... Those were just the first two that came to mind. So, what do you imagine your conscience to look like? Do you have the angelic version of you on one side and the Devilish version on the other? Does your conscience resemble yourself? Maybe cooler? or More attractive? Maybe more plain? Do you not have a conscience? I never really thought about it much personally, but now that I can think about my conscience I see a cool young girl... because I don't want to grow up.... who has great self esteem because she has to... what other choice does she have. I'd say sort of a Punky Brewster type girl is the conscience within my head. How about you? and if you've never thought about who your conscience is...think about it now!

Great post Ray!!! I really have never thought about this! So when I did, like you said, it was blank! WTF does that mean?? LOL Seriously, I dont see anything or think of anything when I think about wether doing this is right or wrong. I have a DEEP conscience!! One that remembers all things. lol So I guess my concsience is just a voice, not a being or form of any kind. I sure hope Im not the only one like this! Arrgh!! LOL Should there be a form?? Now I feel odd.....what if Im the only one!?!??! hehe Bay Lay Gray xx

Ha Ha thanks. I'd never thought about it before either.. and No I don't think your conscience has to be more than a voice. I think that's fine. In movies (which I live by ha ha) they just always portray conscience's with people, but I think that it very well can be simply a voice rather than a being. Maybe that means something good about you. rather than bad :) Anyhow, the voice... is it you? or is it another voice?

Um well, Its mine, but it doesnt sound like I think I sound. lol If that makes any sense! I hate the sound of my voice, when Ive heard it recorded, so I think I subconsciously replace it with a much more soothing version. lol Thanks for your compliment! I do think Im truly one of a kind, so maybe thats what it is. ;o) Bay xx

Ha ha. Well I was a Radio major at one point in time and something we learned is that you sound different when you talk because of how your voice resonates inside of your head. Most people, for that reason, are shocked when they hear their recorded voice and hate it. However, your recorded voice also does not sound like you sound as everyone hears things differently as well. It's pretty weird. So maybe the voice inside your head really is you as you would sound if you were not yourself talking to yourself. Err. Yeah. Ha ha. You're welcome.

Okay...I've thought about this ever since I read it last night. I just can't decide. I've never thought of my conscience like that before. I have my inner self - but not my conscience per say. Now my inner self has purple hair and a bit punkish-goth for lack of words to describe it LOL.

I tried to go blond once and hated it. I guess I felt like I looked like I was trying to look like other girls who have this fascination with being blond (not natural blonds like you)...and that's so not me (not one to try to fit in). Actually I would go platinum blond just cause I love the color. I like streaks too. Though my hubby is too conservative for all that...and I try to take his thoughts into account since he's the one that's got to look at me LOL.

I think your inner self is pretty much your conscience. At least that's what I believe. I think that inner self, conscience and Gut or instinct kind of all co-exist together as one thing. Ha ha. Interesting that she has purple hair... is that your favorite hair color? When I picture this in my head for some reason I see a cartoonish purple haired goth/punk girl. But I can see it!

I used to have black hair with streaks back in the day. But yeah, cool colors are so much upkeep. My hair is typically always blonde (natural) and black or a dark brown because I can't stand my hair being one color and highlights are far too natural.

My conscience would be a young girl too. She would be pretty funky and have a tough streak. She is opinionated and speaks her mind. She is intelligent and always finds an opportunity to learn. On the other side, she is soft and can be tender and gentle. She wants to help others and do what's right, but she better not be taken advantage of. My conscience is tougher than what I really am. I tend to hide my emotions or wear my heart on my sleeve, so my conscience has to make up for that and be hardcore. My conscience is alot like me as far as individuality goes. I don't dress or act a certain way for attention. You have my mind swirling now. Is my conscience cooler than me? Ha ha.

Ha ha you really did get all into it didn't you. ahahaha. You have a hardcore conscience. Awesome! Does she have a name? I probably should have went deeper into mine. See, mine is probably the opposite of yours. My Conscience is a young hip stylish girl who doesn't care what anyone has to say about her. But she's really caring and she wears her heart on her sleeve. She wants to help people and she's never really sure what is right. She's the exact opposite of me who is just all tough on the outside. Wouldn't you like to have your conscience hang out with you in real life now :)

This is a difficult one, but interesting. After much soul searching, I was watching a George Lopez show and felt that I identify with him. There's also a element of my good catholic upbringing that I've head to shake off.. However, I realize that I'm also very impressionable, particularly when it comes to books. My conscience can be totally influenced by what I'm reading, particularly biographies. So for while, I was going around thinking "what would Virginia Woolf make of this" after reading Virginia Woolf: An Inner Life.. Quite disturbing. I might go from seeing the world through the eyes of an anarchist, reading Emma Goldman's autobiography, to an upstanding patriot, reading a George Washington biography, or a wealthy banker/philanthropist, reading David Rockefeller's memoirs. Of course, I have some control over where my conscience will go next, as I get to choose the books I read (and there are some authors I'd never read). But in general, I do seem to be missing a moral backbone. Maybe I should watch the George Lopez show more often.

Yes, serial killers are one set of authors I avoid. Neo-conservatives, such as Coulter, Hannity, O'Reilly, etc. are another. So I do have some conscience. :-) I've only watched one episode of the George Lopez show. It seemed pretty much like I Love Raymond. I guess I see myself like the main characters of these shows; as a regular guy, basically good-intentioned, kind of cynical and out for what they can get, but with some core decency somewhere, though you might have to look hard to find it.

I meant "Everyone Loves Raymond" (getting confused with "I Love Lucy").. I don't watch ELR much either, but I'm sure you know the type of character I mean.

So... basically your conscience is an ever morphing being that likes to experience seeing the world through many different walks of life? That's actually pretty cool. I think that's cooler than just having one normal conscience. Just don't read any serial killer books, I don't think we need you to see the world through the eyes of a killer do we? I've never gotten into George Lopez.

I have never put a physical form to my conscience. I know I have one and that I listen to it most of the time, but it doesn't look like anything. Doesn't sound like anything either. It is more of a feeling or emotion I get.

A feeling or emotion works too. I'd never put a physical form to it either until I sat down and thought about it. Then I kind of had fun with it. Apparently it's tough for most people though.

Whatever. Yoda is a perfectly acceptable answer. It's not really immature until you go around talking like yoda, but then again that's just weird and saldy I know people who do that. yes, sad right.

My conscience is in the pit of my gut. Whenever i do something wrong, my stomach gets all twisted up into a knot. I think it is called guilt. I have learned over time to pay attention to that knot in my gut. It is telling me that it is time to make a change in my life.

That's interesting. So your conscience has no face, it's just something that pulls at your gut? I don't think your conscience usually only points out when something is wrong though, so maybe your gut and your conscience are the same thing. One should always listen to their gut.
