i don't know if it is only with me--but i would rather answer those discussions whose owners have put up their avatars. i don't care how it looks, as long as it is different from the green icon that we usually see. well, i am not really digging those attachment photos, what i like are the avatars. how about you? have you noticed this? if yes, then maybe those who don't have avatars should put one up so that their discussions will look more interesting. :-)

I agree with you 100 percent. I'll even go you one better. Adding your own pics makes it even more personable. With all the scams and what not on the Internet these days, sometimes I feel some people use avatars to hide behind also.

I answer whatever discussions peak my interest. An avatar of theirs or the myLot avatar make no difference to me actually. But I do love ones that show the actual members face as mine does. Mine is me and my wife and 2 grandsons. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Really? It doesn’t bother me at all. I remember there was one discussion I posted owned by some who didn’t put anything avatar that has a thousands of post already. That means avatar is not necessary to get connected with other mylot users.

It happens, but I know a couple of good longstanding members without avatars. Most times though I see the green default on a new person and end up with some very weird or dull discussions. Sometimes avatars are good eyecandy, but most times the discussion has to be good or I simply won't care.

Yes those avatars are attracting me, especially when they're cute! And for me, having no avatar is boring. But when looking for discussions, it is the title that makes me respond to them. The avatar is nice but sometimes, I don't find their discussions interesting. I rather respond to those discussions that interests me and has a catchy subject. Yes, I think having an avatar will make their discussions more interesting. I am tired from looking at those members with no avatars. Like what you said, any avatar is better than that green icon. I also don't like to see a lot of those green icons. Maybe they should consider adding a profile avatar. Just a suggestion.

I feel the exact same way. Doesn't even matter what it is.

Yeah, an avatar puts the person behind it to perspective and gives you roughly what the person thinks like, what his personality is like and it generally places a human being behnd a post. A post where the owner has no picture or avatar is not all that appealing, it looks like a robot's work.

I mostly read the thread title and description and then decide if I am interested in replying. I do agree with you though, that avatars do attract my eye to the discussions more than the little annoying green man. I wish that they had more choices availible to those without avatars, I really hate that green icon.

Today is my first day on mylot.com and yes avatars attract my attention, rather than no avatars or the regular default avatar.

I try not to discriminate but i do find myself doing the same thing. I think it is because in the past we have had multiple accounts and other fraud and they have all had that same generic aviater. I do make a concious effort not to think like that as I do remember the days when I myself did not have one and did not even know how to go about putting one up. You have to have so many responses before you can even put one up and so we do have to be understanding to that. As far as making a conversation more interesting....i don't think it does at all. It just identifies the person.

It's a reflex from our real lives...to see the person we are talking to...in this case only a little clue (like an avatar) can make your discussion more pleasant. Every image you decide to put next to your name says something about you, so it's chosen very carefully, I know that. In every discussion we enter we want to discover at least a little about the one you are talking to...after all, it's the second main thing we are here for, isn't it?
