The only golf I've played was miniature golf and somehow hitting the ball was the most difficult! I'd swing and miss constantly. At the same time, I would experience the same problem in playing a regular game of golf. That's the biggest issue for me, but of course, I'm still quite new to the game. What's yours?

yes having fun is the key because in golf it is very easy to get upset with yourself and become extremely frustrated. however, golf is meant to be a very relaxing sport and will provide you with the proper exercise years down the road. one big thing that i never did well when i first started out was i never kept my head down. during my swing i was so quick to look up and watch my ball fly off that i kept forgeting to watch the club head hit the ball. start slow, the faster you swing means the easier it is to screw up. big problem in golf. people get upset and swing harder only to make more mistakes. anyways, one you're able to keep your head down work on maintaing a good stance and learn the correct form to swing a golf club. my biggest problem right now is in my drives. a common mistake amongst amateurs is being able to hit a straight drive off the tee for about 250 yards. i can hit it about 200 but at about 120 or so it tapers off to the right ( im right handed ) so i have a problem with slicing it. luckily for me though my uncle is a semi-pro golfer who can teach me nearly anything i need to know about golf. another problem i have is on the putting greens. i have a difficult time reading the greens and then once i do that i can never figure out how hard to hit it because i have a hard time figuring out the speed of the greens as well. practice practice practice i guess Best of luck in your golf game. its a wonderful sport full of relaxation and enjoyment.

The absolute most important thing to know about playing golf, amateur and pro alike, is to have FUN. I know that may sound cheesy, but trust me. I taught golf to beginners for a living and it's really easy to get bitten by the golf bug and then to start taking the game too seriously as you start to improve. Remember that it is a game...and games are for playing....and playing is FUN. I took the game to seriously myself and I practiced way too much and now I have lagging injuries. This is also the best advice for someone trying to introduce the game of golf to a child or spouse. Make it fun for them and they will enjoy it with you, otherwise it's a chore and you'll be playing by yourself.
