Having owned cats practically all of my life, I learned a few valuable lessons, such as catproofing my home. For me, that meant not buying leather chairs, any kind of rug or cushion. Even more important, floors should be smooth and easy to clean. If you have any more cat proofing tips, I would love to hear them. I've lately wondered how I would get my four cats out in an emergency situation. I know that I'd have to have four carriers, one for each cat. My cats would suffer if my house didn't have any ac, as the house retains a LOT of heat! But fortunately, we have central ac and the cats lounge around the house like kings and queens. They love to be inside and so do I, lolol!

I've actually walked into my cat, Columbus, a few times. I didn't mean to do that and apologized and try to kiss him to show him how sorry I was. The problem is that he's so dark that I can't see him in the dark and/or realize that he's right next to my feet.

Nah, although I do think that cats happen to be very intelligent, except for their insistence on crossing busy streets. They seem to sense when their master is coming home, when they are going to be fed, among other things. They also develop an attachment to their owners and learn to coexist in a multicat household. To be honest, I wouldn't play with such an item. There is just no telling what kind of negative forces or energies you would attract by doing so. My parents used to own one a long time ago, but did not allow me to play with it. Then as I got older, I learned about oujia boards and even more important to stay away from them.

I do now. A few months ago, that stray cat whom I've named Maxie, followed me from my front lawn, meowing for food. I fed him, then saw him the next day and fed him again. He seemed to be very friendly and walked into my house as if he'd always been living there. Not all strays are so friendly, though. If you want to adopt a stray, you'll have to gain its trust by leaving some food and water...

Sometimes older cats have health issues with their eyes, teeth or stomach or liver. You might want to have your cat checked out by the vet. Other than that, an older cat just isn't into playing a lot.

Somehow, my cats, except for Waffles, prefer to use rough surfaces instead of the jungle gym, which is totally covered with rough textured material. And yes, I've heard of cats being trained to use the toilet. I've tried to teach one of my cats to do so, but she just refused to cooperate and I lost my patience and quit. I now have four litterboxes to show for it!

You are so lucky! I had a nice cat, Tabitha, that passed away nearly two years ago. She always used the litterbox, right to the very end. Her shortcoming was scratching my mattress and leather chairs, unfortunately.
