Mysterious Hair Appears In Strange Place!

A strange start to the day. I looked in my bathroom mirror and noticed a strand of hair across my neck. So I went to pick it off and guess what? It was attached! Growing out of my neck!! And by the way, this hair was just under six inches long. I actually measured it because I couldn't believe how long it was and the fact that it just appeared overnight! And it really did appear overnight - there is absolutely no way I would not have noticed it. It was the first thing I noticed when I looked in the mirror this morning. My friend, who I felt the need to phone and discuss it with, said it must have been growing for ages but that's just not possible. I mean, this hair was black - it really stood out. It was on the front of my neck, by my throat. I would definitely have noticed it before it got to six inches long! So my question is has this happened to anyone else? Please tell me it has or else I will really feel like a freak! Is it really possible for a strand of hair to grow that fast?

Well yes it does happen on plenty of people. There are times a rogue hair follacle or two will do that on the neck and shoulder (I've got an unusual lone one around the shoulder/clavical area). Plucking it seems to only work for a bit, the bugger likes to come back. Oh yes and good luck dealing with your new "resident" XD

I will be scrutinising my neck area at least twice a day from now on to make sure there are no signs of it lol! It just seems bizarre that it could suddenly appear like that, and honestly it really did. It just wasn't there the day before! I would have seen it.

But that's the thing - I'm not a "hairy" person! I also have to confess to being a little self-absorbed as far as looking in the mirror goes. So that's why anything weird like that and I would notice straight away. It just seems astonishing that a hair could grow so fast like that. And of course the worrying thing is what if lots suddenly decided to do it at the same time! And less of the new buddy stuff please lol!!!!

Many of the hair follacles are dormant particularly from evolution and adaptation (of course this is still in debate but just had to state it). Some of these only grow to very thin and small amounts of hair, very minute. Others do grow a bit fuller in particular areas and depending on genetics, ethnicity, gender, body types. And there are times a hair follacle or two will grow a bit fuller. The explainations are various, ranging from genetics to diets to plain involuntary bodily acts. And again, have fun with your new buddy!! XD *chuckles hysterically*

I've heard that these things are caused by stress, but it's not uncommon. You'll want to check that spot on your neck every so often because it'll happen again. I have a spot on my arm and my chin where this happens. It's like one minute you look at it and it's fine and the next it's this huge hair. You can look it up on the internet, but it's really not uncommon... so no worries there.

The idea that it could be caused by stress makes me feel a lot better than it being age-related. Now how vain is that lol?? Thanks!

Well to make you feel even more better... I'm 25 and I get them. so it's definitely not age.

It was something in your diet. Did you take a lot of vitamins or minerals for the last few days? I would watch it very careful, who knows, maybe you can create new formula for growing hair overnight...he, he...

Now there's an idea! I must pay attention to what I'm eating just in case I've stumbled on something here lol. Actually my diet in the last couple of weeks hasn't been good, mainly snacks and rubbishy things. Most days I haven't had a proper meal. That would be ironic if it turned out junk food helped hair growth lol!

It depends. If you have a lot of protein in your diet, your hair will grow really fast. People who drink protein shakes and eat a lot of fish oil, have very fast growing hair...

I have some of those on my neck, cheek, and even on my back. I like to pluck them, since they always come back. I don't know what is it with me that I like plucking them, because I feel at ease once I got rid of them all. Some of them are even are with different colors, some are light-colored and others are either white or black. Don't bother much about it, we all have those strange hairs growing in some parts of our body!;)

wow different colours! That's strange too, although my natural hair colour is darkish while the hair on my arms is blonde I guess. I'm just glad I noticed it when I did - I would have hated for someone else to try to remove it and then THEY found out it was attached!

I have felt hair on my chin, and even though they are blond and invisible to anyone else's and even to me, they are coarse and I have to pull them out. I have seen women my age who had long strands of hair and even mustaches and to me it is embarrassing. I do feel they shoot up overnight. I was thinking of electrolysis, or finding what am I eating, but right now all I can do is just pull them out. It takes a while though and the other methods do not work. I do think facial or neck hair shoots out overnight.

I see women like that too and I just couldn't leave it if it was me. I worked with a woman who was just a few years older than me and she had long black hairs growing out her chin. Of course I never mentioned it to her and it could well have been due to medication or something like that but I couldn't have just left them there. I know that's just vanity but I just couldn't. I would have electrolysis or something like that done too.

I had one grow in my eye. It was freakin' long and I had to pluck it which just bout killed me. I remember my sister would get this one hair on her chin. It would be like all of a sudden bang a 2 inch wiry hair on her chin. Weird but true. Though 6 inches is a lot!

Oooh plucking one out of your eye would be awful!! That makes my eyes water just thinking about it. That was it was like with me - it just appeared. It was just like a hair on my head though, it wasn't wiry or anything. Although my hair isn't black and this darned thing was!

Sweet it happens to me to and what happens is they do grow for a while but white so that you can not see them at first and then they go black I normally run my Finger up my Neck to see if one is on its way lol So it is normal do not panik I get the Tweezers and remove it as soon as I know it is there

I vaguely remember finding a long fine hair on my face...can't remember exactly where...it was about two inches long and fine. It seemed to have mysteriously appeared also. I plucked it out and it returned, it returned several times over a long period in exactly the same spot. I'm thinking yours was probably there for a while but it possibly thickened and darkened overnight...it's still weird how our bodies do these weird things.

LMAO!

I'm pale too and this hair was black so it really stood out. I remember when I was younger one of my grandmothers friends had the hairiest chin, I mean really it was like a soft beard. The hairs were really white as well and my sister and I used to call her Santa Claus lol! Just between ourselves of course, we would have been in big trouble if anyone had overheard us!
