Making Money with Associated Content

United States

I joined Associated Content at the start of November. For three weeks I visited there every now and again checking things out. Then I submitted my first article last week. It was denied for upfront payment. So, I tried again and that article was accepted for 7.20, I was paid via PayPal the next day. Then I wrote another one, which was accepted for 6.24 (I thought it a weird number, but okay). I was paid today. Additionally I have made 11 cents in earnings for the month. Associated Content pays you upfront (for some articles) and then performance pay for all of your materials (you can add videos and slide shows and such). Currently they pay 1.50 for every 1000 views. Once you reach 1.50 in your account for monthly views (if you don't reach it it waits till you do) then you are paid the following month. However, for up front payment you are paid that week or the next if you were accepted late in the week. Please feel free to add your experiences or questions! I am still fairly new (have just started the end of last week!)

I just started writing for AC, but I've been reading the forums for almost a year. It's not true that offers are going down or articles are being rejected across the board. Plenty of the writers says their pay and acceptances have stayed high. Some topics are saturated, and they just don't want any more. They also seem to be getting pickier about writing quality, and that's a good thing. The better the writing is, the better the site's reputation is going to be. Of course, they'll accept just about anything if you don't want upfront payment, so there's still too much bad writing there. Don't get discouraged. You got more for your first few articles than I did. For a beginner, those are very good pay rates.

I'm very new to AC, but I completely agree with what you're saying. I've read a bit about this and yes, AC is saturated with certain topics and so they often will offer small payments or reject the article all together. They're in the wonderful position (from their perspective at least) to be able to turn down articles because they've a lot to choose from. I mean there are a lot of talented writers to compete with. I for one am not a professional writer, but enjoy writing anyway, so I'm submitting articles and getting offers between $3 and $7. I realize that I'm making peanuts, but I'm ok with that... at least for now. Here's my current thinking on this... I'm building a portfolio of my work to show to prospective future employers or those considering my freelance services, I'm eligible for performance payments on all my articles, and I'm getting a lot of writing practice. Also, I can submit as non-exclusive and still have the rights to all my work, publishing in other places including my blogs. I just hope I can keep thinking of things to write about! It seems like the articles I've written that were more personal and not so everyday and overly newsy... I mean newsy without a twist or flair, don't do as well. So, I'm trying to come up with content that has a bit of humor involved in it... regardless what my topic might be. Well, I guess that won't work for everything, but I like stories with a lighter side to them.

Wow! You are getting paid better than I am. $4.00 is the most I have made. You must be one heck of a writer. What type of articles do you write? I would be interested in reading them if you would send me a link. Thanks.

I think part of it is finding a niche. My first article was rejected because there was already plenty of content about them. The other two I wrote on hybrid animals after searching AC to see what content they had on the subject. I have several ideas, but I would suggest seeing what they have before writing your article. I think writing something new and different makes the difference!

Thanks! I did that with my last article. They bought it for 3.54. It hasn't been published yet but, it should be any day now. I'd still like to read your articles if you would send me your link.

Sounds great! I do not really write for AC but some of my friends do. I think they have the same experience with you when it comes to the pay range. Anyway, the good news is that you are all earning something from the site and that is really great!

Okay, I joined about a week ago now, and I've posted two articles. They didn't give me any money for them though :( I'm a little disappointed. I thought they were pretty good. One of them they had too many articles on, and the other one wasn't popular enough. I guess I'm going to have to find a balance.

I had the same problem and posted a few before they accepted any. Don't get discouraged. I think once you find something you want to write on that they will pay you for...it will be good. They have now paid me for four articles.

This does look interesting. I've never heard of this site. I was an English minor in college, and I had to take a lot of writing classes. Are you a freelance writer. What experience do you have writing in the past?

I like to call myself a ProBlogger just because it gets people thinking. I do currently write for several websites and blogs. However, other then a few creative writing classes in high school and college, I don't have a "professional writing" type of past.

this is very interesting. thank you for this. i will sign up for this. it sounds very encouraging and i like writing too. i think it will improve my writing if i keep on writing while getting paid for doing it. it is a very nice idea. besides, it looks like it pays well. though it depends on the quality and readership, but reading some testimonies here, i am convinced that this pays well. thank you. i appreciate your posting here.
