How old do cats have to be to get into "heat"?

Ok my cat has been acting weird and she is not even a year old. So could it be heat? she meow's loudly, raises her hind quaters up in the air,and is rubbing over the dogs and such for attention. I am at a loss? i thought they had to be older? Can anyone help me out on this?

Oh, yeah, from that description, she is definately in heat. Cats can go into heat as early as 5 months, I believe. Call your local animal shelter or ASPCA for information about low-cost spay/neuter programs in your area. You'll have to wait until she isn't in heat (and she has to be 6 months old, usually) to get her fixed, but you can at least get the information now. Good Luck, and try to keep all your doors closed!

Lol thanks I have been trying to make sure she doesn't sneak out when I let the dogs out. I will start calling on Monday.

And they'll come back into heat every few days or so until they are spayed or mated. I had one go into heat 2 weeks before her spay appointment with the low cost spay program. She came into heat 4 times. She'd come into heat for about 3 days, go off one day, come back into heat another 2 or so days, then go off and continued until she was spayed.

Yes, it's usually between 4-6 months, and some vets will do it as early as 4 months, especially if you're having her declawed at the same time. Then, the earlier, the better. But whether you had the money or not, you'll still have to wait until she completes her heat cycle now before any vet will spay her. As soon as it's over though (they don't last too long), you can take her in. Also you may want to try your local Humane Society or Anti-Cruelty Society. A lot of them will spay and neuter for as little as $25, and they do a very nice job from what I've seen at work!

Usually about six months, but some have been known to go into heat as young as 12 weeks, its sounds like she is in heat by what you are describing...

I think its like 7 months or so.. That is probably her in heat. Becareful you dont end up with kittens unless you want them!

My kitty went into heat at 4 months, most vets will have you wait until they are six months, however, before they "fix" them. And please whatever you do don't declaw your kitty, the procedure is like cutting off the last digit of your finger.
