I finally finished the Gunslinger series by Stephen King and it was awesome. My problem is that I read the fourth book last, and there were 3 more following it(which I read over the last year). The books are typically long as most of his works are, but I am tempted to read the last 3 again just to refresh my memory. What would you do in my situation? Does the fact that I am a fast reader weigh on my decision? I'd like to know what you all think.

I always wanted to read this story and never have. Without giving anything away, can you tell me what time period the story takes place in? Thanks. You could skim through the other three and probably get enough to refresh your memory. I don't think I would reread them word for word. I might do that 5 or 10 years from now. (if I was in your shoes).

The time period spans hundreds of years, sigma, but it does it so smoothly you hardly notice. Since I have a lot of holiday time on my hands I think I will get started all over again with the first book. It is the only series I have ever read that I find I can read over and over again.

I don't knnow that it actually spans hundreds of years so much as it takes place on alternate plains of time and space. In Roland's world it seemed like most of it took place in a time much like our 1800's, but Eddie's time was more like the 80's, susannah's was definately the 60's, etc. I read them all in order, at the times they came out. I wish I had re read the earlier ones, as there was like a 20 year span it seemed betweenthe first 4 and the last 3.

Wow, I didn't realize he had brought out these books, although to be honest I was once an avid reader, I always had a book in my hand and if I got a good one I couldn't put it down, although I am not a fast reader, now I find the internet has taken over, tut tut! I know, but I'm sure it was a Stephen King novel Desperation which was utterly fantastic as was his novella Apt Pupil. Sure go ahead my friend if you enjoyed the books read them again. Don't laugh but I read Harry Potter over and over again (when I get the time!) x

I do remember you mentioning your obsession with Harry Potter, wolfie, but I like him a lot myself. I have decided that I will spend much of my Christmas holidays revisiting the Dark Tower: Gunslinger Series.

I had wondered if that was a good series. Maybe now I will get around to reading it. I have re-read books many times just because I enjoyed them. So If you want to re-read them because you enjoyed them then I say why not?

As I said, Aurone, I think these books are his best work(and I have been reading his work since the 70s). He really has an imagination that is out of the ordinary.

I absolutely love the gunslinger series and I have all 7 may it do ya fine (sorry couldn't resist that one!). If I want to refresh my memory, rather than read just the last few, I always go back and start from the beginning again because there is always something I missed no matter how many times I read it so I can pick up details that i missed before and incorporate it into my understanding of how the books work. I think that because, like me, you are a fast reader, you should start from the begininng again and see if you missed anything last time. Plus, if you start from the beginning then if anyone who has just started reading the books posts a question on say, the second one, you will be able to answer it wihtout hesitation. And on that note i think i'll go and find my set and read them all again. Thank ya big, big and may it do ya fine!

Being that I don't wish to forget the face of my father, sephrenia, I will follow your advice and start all over from the beginning, LOL I think the Gunslinger Series is the finest work that Stephen King has produced. I even find myself wondering-should it ever happen-who would play him in a movie. Clint Eastwood would have been perfect maybe 10 years ago. Happy reading to you!

You have not forgotten the face of your father and have done honor to his name. I agree with you that clint eastwood would sooo be the person to play him. For some strange reason I can see whoopi goldberg as eddie's lady, I think she would just be the funniest and most awesome ever if she did. I dont know about jake or eddie but im sure ill think of something lol. Happy reading to you as well!

Most of the books Stephen King has written relates in some way to the gunslinger series, as it was the book that was always in his head. I was extremely nervous that he would write no more once it was finished. He even wrote something to that effect in the last one, at the end in a letter to the Constant reader. I would re read them again. I remember when I was younger, salem's lot was my favorite. I will bet I have read that book 60 times. Once, I finished it, flipped it back and started over.
