A Bittersweet Update To Urgent: If You Can Help A Fellow MyLotter

SInce many of you have been following the past two discussions I started about a fellow MyLotter's predicament, that is OreoCookie and her hopes of placing Sassy, her kitten in a new home, I thought I'd give a "bittersweet" up-date. I say bittersweet, as no one who has a pet and who has bonded with it, and the pet bonding with their human owner relishes the idea of having to give up that beloved pet, even if it's for the best all way round. When I say I know what OreoCookie is going through, I MEAN IT, I do, as I had been in that exact same predicament myself last year. I had to give up a lot of my kitties due to the problem my mother had created with too many cats, and we were facing eviction. According to our landlord, we were only allowed two cats. No ifs, ands or buts about it. With the rents the way they are now, there was no way we could afford to be evicted and lose our apartment that we had lived in for so long. That is why Oreo, had asked for my help almost a week ago, since I had gone through this myself of trying to place my cats elsewhere, and knew the "ropes" of getting in contact with pet rescuers. Well all that frantic emailing around has paid off. One of the things I had done was to go to the ASPCA website and tracked down all the listings of pet rescuers and shelters in the GA area since that is where Oreo is...I emailed practically all of them. Most said they couldn't help but placed cross-posting alerts to other rescuers who might help, especially with the idea of transporting Sassy to another MyLotter, who lives in NC and was willing to take in Sassy. One rescue place, Pup&Cat Co, came through, and one of the owners, an Ursula was willing to take in Sassy and keep her until arrangements could be made for Sassy's transport. Before any of this could happen though, Ursula wanted Sassy vetted, that is properly examined, and given shots, to make sure Sassy was indeed healthy. This is a common practice. When one rescuer took in some of my kitties, she first had them go to her former vet, when she lived in Staten Island (she now lives up-state NY), where not only were they examined but stayed boarded at the vet until she could come down and transport them to her place upstate. This is all just a precaution to make sure the pets are healthy (they were of course). So in a private email to me on Monday, Oreo informed me that Ursula was going to meet her around 5 or so in the evening on Tuesday at the vet that happens to be near Oreo, and is Ursula's private vet. In a later email on Tuesday night, Oreo told me that she did indeed go to the vet, and met with Ursula, signed some papers, and the vet took Sassy to be examined. I won't go into any details about all that was said in the email. So now it's just a question of time, when Ursula can then arrange for Sassy's transport and her new home. You can see my former discussions about the "adventures of Sassy" here And thanks to those who have responded previously and some of the suggestions you gave. http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1344136.aspx By the way Oreo, if you want to share anymore about this with us, please do....and if you want to rant and rave, scream, holler all I can say it go for it...And don't take offense but I still like to deck out your son-in-law for putting you through all this crap! Grrrrr!

Hi pyewacket, I'm so thrilled to see this discussion you've posted. I was thinking of Oreo's situation on Tuesday, and have been waiting to hear what's taken place. I can see what you mean about 'bittersweet.' Poor Oreo. This is just so very sad, as she should never have been asked to give up her kitty. What a 'family' she has! Very cruel, I believe. So, is Sassy actually going to live in NC with a fellow myLotter? If so, that's awesome, but will be hard for Oreo at the same time. I'd love to hear how Sassy's doing, once she gets there though. Such a thoughtful person, whoever this is. Thanks too to Ursula. She sounds great, like the cat rescuer I know is. Thanks again for all you've done, from a 'fellow cat lover.' Take Care.

Yes, it is bittersweet. Yes, once things are arranged Sassy will be going to her new home in NC with a fellow MyLotter. Believe me, I would've loved to have taken Sassy myself, but I'm even further away in NY, and my landlord would have a fit. I sent an email to Ursula thanking her over and over again for all her help...Gee, wish I could meet her to thank her personally :)

This fellow myLotter, and Ursula are angels. I think I read who the myLotter is, but can't remember at the moment. I saw somewhere where they said they'd be willing to take her. So generous, and caring! It'd be wonderful to see photos here of Sassy in her new home, but maybe way too hard on Oreo!? Am so thankful though, that Sassy's life has been spared. Sending a cat to the Humane Society isn't a good solution.

I was thinking that too, if CatsandDogs (that's the one who agreed to take in Sassy) posts pictures of Sassy it might be hard on Oreo. I sometimes come across pictures of my kitties I gave up..it's been more than a year and I get teary-eyed!

Exactly. And that's all that matters. As long as Kitty has a good, safe home with people to love her, that's all that matters. I am glad it all worked out in the end.

I'm no thankful there are wonderful and loving people like you, Pye and CatsAndDogs, as well as the others who helped make all this possible. I sure hope Oreo doesn't take any offense but as I said in an earlier reply on here and I've said it before, I want to go with you and whoever else goes to deck her SIL out too! Just let me get one good swing in...lol. I guess there are people who aren't bad but just don't understand the love some of us can have for our pets. They really are our babies, it's as simple as that. I'll be watching for more updates when Sassy arrives at her new home! Annie

I am glad for both Sassy and Oreo that things work out and that you didn't have to take Sassy to the pound to be put down. Pye, thanks so much for doing what you did for Oreo and though I can't speak for her, I know she is appreciative beyond words for what you did for her and Sassy. I hope that Sassy's new home is a great one and she has a happy rest of her life.

I've been gone from MyLot for awhile now, and had no idea this was going on. I'm sorry to hear that Oreo has to give up her kitty, I know myself what it is like to have to give up a pet we love with all our hearts, because of some situation that no longer allows us to keep a pet. My heart felt sympathies go out to Oreo. You are a great person for having helped Oreo through this situation and helping her get in contact with the right people. Kudos to you my friend.

If you need back up Pye, I'll borrow Transdisc's boxing gloves and help you out with your last little part of your discussion. It reminds me when I had to give up Leon several months ago. Oh man I loved that little guy and I really wish he were still with me. I just like to believe as much I loved him, God put him with people who could even love him more than I could. He now has a yard to play in, and three kids to dote on him. But I do understand the sadness.

Yes, I remember how you had to give up Leon. It's never easy to give up a pet. I think there are a whole bunch of us here who would like to punch out the SIL---yes, lets ask Transdisc for his boxing gloves!

Pye, that is great news, even though it is heartbreaking as well. Sassy will be safe and loved and I'm sure Oreo will feel a lot better knowing that Sassy is safe. It's a horrible situation to be in, please let her know I am thinking of her.

I'm just glad that a fellow mylotter is taking in Sassy. Another heartwarming story about mylotters helping each other out where pets are concerned. :-) Wishing Sassy all the luck in her adventures to her new forever home. Again, I'm there with ya in decking out Oreo's sil, pye. All this stuff Oreo has to suffer thru because of his wife wanting a kitten that wants nothing to do with her.

Hooray for you and your efforts on Oreo's behalf! I am proud of you. And may I add (in reference to another discussion you started) that was a very "Christian" thing for you to do! lol!

Yes it was a Christian thing to do...hehe...I had to defend you over at that other discussion...I believe you had ever right to express yourself the way you did there...I saw nothing wrong with your words, but you got a bit bashed there---so I had to defend you..Don't like one of my friends bashed like that!

Hi Pye... Just checking in to see what was going on and such and I see now. God I feel so darned terrible for Oreo!! Let her know that I promise that she'll be in a happy and well loved home for I love my babies very very much. I have 5 acres of ground with so many trees that it's still forest like in my back yard and lots and lots of trees in the front. I have cat xing signs at the end of our driveway so everybody knows I have cats and love them enough to put a sign out to watch out for them. Anyway, some day we hope to get enough money out of this house to buy a house with much more land so my fur babies can run and play where ever and when ever they please. I also want to put in a doggy door for both cats and dogs so they can feel safe knowing they can come in and go out as they want. We had that in our house in Arkansas but not here and don't want to put one in here in fear it won't sell as well or get a good price so once we find what we want and buy it, one will be put in then. But I promises, she'll be loved and happy here with me. Hugs to all of you!!

Not a word and it's starting to tick me off because I'm really concerned for Sassy and the going ons with her. Where is she? Is she getting her shots and possibly dewormed? Is she being spayed? Is she in a temporary home for now till transport is formed? Is she being loved? What the hell is going on?! You haven't heard from her Oreo hasn't heard from her, I haven't heard from her. It's got me worried sick.

I'd deck him too...there's not a man in this world I would give up my pets for. And I hear he's telling his wafe (her daughter) that she can't keep all her dogs, either?! WTF?! I would hand him divorce papers and walk. But hey, that's just me. I like to try and reciprocate my dogs' loyalty. Good luck!

Okay MakinMoney...let's go over and the two of us can deck him! I'm still pi$$ed off of how insensitive the son-in-law was throughout this business.
