No no, don't mock this question just yet. I don't know about what you think but I reckon that many don't think anything much of cutting hair. Right? To you, cutting hair may be just cutting hair. Your hair has got long so you cut it short. It's as simple as that, what's so difficult to understand? :P However, cutting your hair can have a deeper meaning. For instance, hair is sometimes referred to as "worry strands". Hair represents worries and burdens so cutting it would relieve one of them (at least until the hair grows back). To some others, cutting hair may also be viewed as a fresh start - and this is especially appropriate come the new year 2008. So what about you? Is cutting your hair any special occasion? Does it mean anything to you other than personal grooming? Do share your thoughts! =) PS.: If you are interested to read more on this subject, check out my "It's time to go... BALD!!!" article at http://lordwarwizard.blogspot.com/2007/08/its-time-to-go-bald.html .

I keep a headache 24 hours a day 7 days a week and have done so since 1986. I found that keeping my hair short, does help. I have thick hair and lots of it. So it was really heavy. I was on a seizure medication that made my hair come out. I would cry when I would brush my hair. My hair dresser said that with all that hair coming out, I still had more hair than most of her other clients.

I get my hair cut often actully. I try to keep the back of my hair long but my ends get dryed out easy. Both my parents are hair stylists. So I get my hair fixed quite a lot.

I like to keep my hair short as you can see from the foto! Then there is no hair to pull on or worry about! I have my hair cut once every eight to ten weeks, I don't think much about it to be honest, just go in have my usual and that's it! Although with the beard I ask for that trimmed too, the barbers are great they trim your eyebrows and ears too!

G-R-O-S-S. Shouldn't you do that trimming yourself? :P

Nothing wrong with getting your eyebrows done, I do my nose hairs myself, they have a great technique with a flame to burn off the hairs on the ears.

I cut my hair when I change my life. :) I cut my hair after I had been where I live now for about a year, when my health started getting better and I realized I wasn't going to die like the doctors had told me after all. I cut it then not as a celebration that I was going to live so much as trying to change my perspective to take in that information. It had become tangled beyond repair by lying in bed during my long illness, and I chopped it off myself because I realized if I was going to live, I had to become alive again. Does that make sense? I cut my hair off right before I had my son as well. Another life change. Another thing that was going to so completely change my life that I had to look at my life in a new way.

No. I cut my own hair for years. The past two years I've decided to start growing my hair so I haven't really need the cutting thing anyhow. Anyway, maybe when it was a kid it was a big deal but it isn't something that I do too often and something I do myself so it's like, whatevs.

The last time I cut my hair was a few weeks ago. I cut it because I was feeling sad and down. It was my first time (and hopefully last time) cutting hair due to feeling down. After cutting my hair, I did feel slightly happier for 1 - 2 hours. I felt happier because I felt 'prettier' and my head was 'lighter'. =P However, ultimately, I need to depend on myself to be happy. I can't always cut my hair whenever I feel down. If that's the case, I'll be a botak in no time. There are certain months in the year I will surely pay my hair dresser a visit. Being a typical Singaporean Chinese, I will surely pay her a visit before Christmas and Chinese New Year. =P

Actually most times when I cut my hair it means something. Change. I cut and dye my hair when I am wanting or needing a change. So does my mother. Like starting diets or stuff like that. Like I will soon be cutting and dying my hair soon when the New Year rolls around. I think it helps us somehow to see changes even if it is in our grooming we also change the colors and styles of our clothing something that helps us jump start our changing stage like losing weight.

Yeah it sorta is.It is something that my mom has always done whenever she wants to change something about herself off comes the hair from shoulder length or long to short hair and then she dyed it so I guess that is why I do it also that way. It is also called the shedding of a image. yeah I am nuts..lol

well when I had my operation I had pretty long hair but after operation I couldnt take care of it I could reach to wash it barely got it brushed had to have daughter do it so I wen tto beauty shop and got it shampood and dried I hated the wat they fixed it I never wear bangs don tlook good in them always wear it wavy and the blow dring and the way she styled it made it look starght and after 2 days look striny just hated it so put in back in pony tale . then I decided ok amd going to get it cut short since I might have to have chemo I wount have that much to lose lol and went and told her how I wanted it cut about 3 inces all around and shorter in the back well she ended up giving what I call a boy cut very short about an inch on top and shorter in the back . Now I am stuck with it.. BUt then I liked how she styled it. So if I lose it now wont matter much. and I can always get a wig. this is the only time I ever had a reason to cut my hair or have some one do it. mostly I cut it myself. and when I do I just get tired of it being long!

i cut my hair when i feel like its too long already or if i want to look different. ^__^ however, there are some past occasions when i had my hair cut for the sake of it. ^__^;; but i only cut my hair once in a while because i'm really lazy to go to a parlor and have it cut. ^__^;; and what makes me more lazy is when i step inside a parlor, the one to cut my hair would urge me to avail of their other services like hot oil, hair spa, hair relaxing, etc etc etc. and most of the times i wasn't able to refuse! so instead of paying just for a hair cut, i would spend more on another service. ^__^;;

The last time I cut my hair was one year ago. Since I gratuated from the high school, I started to keep a long hair. And now, if you can see, there's a long hair. when I was a middle school student, the school had a rule that girls can't keep long hair, because it would be a matter to take care. So once my hair got long, I cut my hair. It was a long time that I was a short hair girl. So now I don't want to cut my hair. The another reason is that you must pay for it when it was cut...heyhey... And sometimes cuttimg hair was relieve worries and burdens. It's ture that cutting hair is viewed as a fresh start, especially appropriate come the new year. In my country, people cut hair before the new year, and after new year, it's not allowed to cut hair. Because the "hair" sounds like the "money" in my country. So if you cut it, it means the money will be "cut", too. Again, I can't check out your article at your blog...lol... I don't know why...

Hi,lordwarwizard!Long time no see! "Worry strands",yes! I cut my hair because I want to change into a new style.Personally,I think hairstlye is important to girls.A proper hairstyle can make the girl looks young, active, beautiful and clean. If I come across a girl with dirty hair,I don't think she is a clean guy. So cutting hair for me is important,I want to make something fresh and new in my daily life. But the disappointed new hairstyle will bring me new trouble!LoL.

It is now, or rather soon will be, special.. i have long hair and am letting it grow until it is long enough to donate to Locks for Love. This is an American organization that collects hair from hairdressers and uses it to make wigs for children with cancer or other illnesses who have no hair.. I am so llooking forward to it.. I need 3 inches more, then off it comes.. I do not llike my hair too short, so it has taken a bit more time than it might have otherwise... The onlly other time a haircut has been really special was when I cut mine before entering 9th grade. It was sort of a coming of age thing, and since it was below my knees, there was a lot to cut..

Well, I am housebound for most of the time and my hairdresser visits my home. I have known her for many years and she is as much of a friend as a hairdresser. She books in my appointment to run into her lunch hour and we also have lunch together and I do not think we stop talking for the whole time. I look forward to her visits and she always makes my hair look nice again and in fact I look about ten years younger when she leaves, partly because of the smart new cut but mostly because of the laughter and chat. The other time that cutting my hair means something extra special is if I am going to be taken to some special occasion such as a Christening, then that is part of the anticipation of the event.

what a coincidence! i just cut my (two) daughters' hair on saturday. they both have beautiful long curly hair.. but i think it's way bit too long... way bit too messy and unkept - so... off it goes - i didnt cut them too short, just trimmed it- to make them look 'neater'. eventhough i dont like to keep my hair long - my husband doesnt like me to cut my hair - so i normally have to wait until i really cant stand it, before 'i'll get permission' to cut my hair. so... cutting hair - is just cutting hair.. i do it just to keep it tidy, neat. but i like what you wrote about "worry strands"... now that i read that - i feel like i should cut my hair more often... =P

nope. i cut my hair when i feel like it. not a grand occassion. but baby's first haircuts are special occasions. some salons even give a certificate. and in chinese tradition, the first lock of hair that is cut can be made into a ink brush to keep for posterity. that's quite a cute idea.

No there is no special meaning to getting my hair cut or permed or streaked or anything. I change my hair style often and It's no big deal to me. My sister is a hairdresser and owns her own shop. I get my hair done when ever I feel like it. Sometimes I get perms, when I am working outside of home and it's easier to take care of when curly. Sometimes I get it streaked, needs a pick me up since I have dirty blonde hair. I get it cut short once in a few years and then I let it grow out for a few years. I am now at the long hair lenbth and the straight natural hair, and the nornal dirty blonde hair. I think I'm in need of a pick up and get something different again. So maybe it does have some meaning to me after all. Maybe getting my hair done is a picking me up remedy. You have brought this out of me with this discussion. Huh. I guess even the simple things do having meanings.
