Australia has a new Prime Minister. After 11 years of John Howard as our Prime Minister, the Labour party was voted in at the recent Federal election. Their leader, Kevin Rudd is our new Prime Minister. He has selected a woman, Julia Gillard as the Deputy Prime Minister. Now that Kevin Rudd is in Bali for a conference, Julia Gillard is now the Acting Prime Minister of Australia. This is the "first time ever", Australia has had a women in this position. Interestingly, my 14 year old daughter has become very interested in the leaders of our country. Is this because she is influenced by having a women in the highest leadership position? What are your views on Australia's political change?

I live in NSW and voted for the labour gov, Kevin Rudd and was most impressed by the fact that Julia Gillard is our deputy and to see her as the acting priminester is great for Australia and for the rest of the world to see. Good onya Julia and Kevin. Hope to see more of it in the future.

I'm sorry that I can't say anything about Australias politics..however, I was caught by your discussion because just recently Argentina has sworn in thier first ever woman President too. Women now a days are becoming so involved in politics and more and more are becoming top leaders. :) Hope they'll do good in thier position..

This is good that your country too has a women leader. This is an excellent example to our young female teenagers to aspire to whatever they want. I suspect that women leaders will be less likely to start wars.

Hi jennybianca! Yes, I think having a female leader may spark an interest to young girls. They will be inspired and motivated that they too can make a big difference and succeed in whatever goal or aspirations in life they have. I am glad to learn about your Acting Prime Minister and I do believe that she is in not that position because she is credible and a responsible leader. I always think that female leaders lead with a gentle yet firm hand. Our current president is a woman and she is the second woman president who was elected. Take care and have a nice day. :)
