People would quit talking on their phones and watching DVD players in their cars?? How do kids growing up now even learn how they got somewhere if they are busy watching movies?

I think that navigation systems are a good investment for those who get lost easily, and for those who are in strange areas they are not used to. Map reading is not always practical. I do not think that they address the issue of distracted drivers at all. Please also remember that geographies in many areas change very quickly, much more quickly than many people can accustom themselves to. That is especially so in a city like Phoenix, there are people who live here all their lives who barely recognize the place! * I think that cars that drive themselves, not just navigation systems, may present the beginning of a solution to the congestion of the roads. It would also make the roads safer, not just for the reasons you name. Not all drivers share the same skill level. Some are just plain bad. Others couldn't find the nose on their face. Still more could not park in an empty stadium.
