Tsunamis in Indonesia seems like long cycle of aftershocks

It seems like the super powerful tsunami that flooded indonesia and other islands is still experiencing aftershocks. The reason I say this is because of how powerful it was. I also heard something like this happened in the same area in the 1500s. The religeous leaders went around blaming bad people for Gods wrath and then had them killed.
